Topic: Broken Arm at ECR Icefest

Tetanus Racing would like to pass the proverbial hat for a crewman that got injured at ECR this weekend.  While walking back to the paddock to retrieve some gas cans, Carl slipped on the ice and broke his left upper arm.   He was taken into Decatur by the track EMT crew and treated at the local ER.  He had to buy medication and will probably need an orthopedic specialist, at some point.

Carl is a Pit Crewman for Tetanus Racing and volunteers his time out of shear love of the racing sports.  Carl is also living on a fixed income and has no medical insurance.  His daughter has agreed to come stay with him until his arm gets better and I'm sure Tetanus members will be over from time to time.....  I've set up a "Go Fund Me" account for Carl, to help out with the medical bills for this accident. I've started it off, but will probably give more........ I'm hoping my Lemons Peers will show what generosity they have and at least give a little something to help Carl out.

Some of us manage to trip and break bones in the paddock without the benefit of ice (which strikes me as cheaty), but okay, I'm in.

Ouch!  That is not just a broken arm....that is a displaced humerus (Not funny...!) fracture.... Sometimes the orthopods end up doing surgery to plate these things....well, here is a little something from our Opus 28 Honda Prelude on behalf of the Mario Kart Driving School!  And hopefully his Tetanus shots are up to date, but I guess that must be a prerequisite to be on the Tetanus Racing Team....Cheers!  Z

We have a Carl on our team.  He's a great carpenter that just hasn't had much work the last couple years but he still shows up to every race and happily schelps around gas cans, monitors the radios and unpacks and repacks gear just for the love of being at the races and helping the team.  We hope your arm heals fast Carl!

The Resistance wish Carl the best, and donated our unused ECR gas money.

The total is now up to over $2300. Way to go Lemons People.

Re: Broken Arm at ECR Icefest

The generosity has been amazing. We're almost at the original $2500 (22 tires) goal after less than 24 hours.
Brett bumped the "ceiling" up on the donation page after a hint from another team that they were surprised by the cost charged when one of their drivers had to be carted off in the track's ambulance.

Lemons people rock, and I'm proud to be part of this community.

I think I used to be the exclusive member of the Lemons Broken Arm Club.

However, looking at that picture of Carl's arm,  its obvious I was doing it wrong!

Thanks for showing me how its done!  smile

This may have been covered in earlier threads but my understanding was that if he was Crew or a Driver that the on-site ambulance was part of our fees.

My motorcycle accident ambulance ride in rural OK in 2000 cost $1400...800 of which was out of pocket.  I actually was able to negotiate it down to $450 but the level of persistence required was insane.

I can assure you that a ride in the  on-site Lemons ambulance is NOT part of our fees.

You're going to get a bill if you take the ride.   My share was $800.
