Re: Middle finger

Moving over seems wrong because it's unpredictable. You're likely to be moving into the space the faster car was planning to occupy. Stay on your line but keep the door open for them. Drive off center but not necessarily to the right.

Video shows how to pass two ways (typical I HAD THE LINE AND I AM FIGHTING FOR THE LEAD AND I AM GOING TO WIN AND NO ONE CAN DENY ME AND I AM NOT A LOSER AND I AM THE BEST type driving), but if you watch until :50 you will see an example of a pass where the slower car makes room (gets off the line) for the faster one.

I think that moving over can be good, however it's best if you accompany it with a point by.

I always give point bys.  I know where I want them to go, they know where I want them to go, they know I'm going to leave them room, everybody goes home safely.

Also checking your mirrors before moving over, because someone else is probably trying to pass you on the other side.

Just saying, Somebody might have have made that mistake to earn their first (and so far only) black flag at their first race.

The P1 car executes a "self PIT maneuver" during an overly optimistic cut back. Speaking as a passor and passee... A cars please just wait an extra beat to cut back around a slower car. You don't need to make the clearance by inches - this isn't WEC/LeMans/IMSA/F1. And by giving extra space when cutting back, the car you save from a black flag or tire wall customization may be yours.

When I started Lemons, I wondered why people took the horn out, as well as the high beams,  hazards, and turn signals.  I thought these were great communication tools that should not be offensive.

I mean, if the Volvo driver wanted to pass, he could have just used his high beams to signal to the car in front.  And then proceeded to give him a AOOOOOGA/HONK/HONK to let him know his driving style perhaps leaves something to be desired and could use some refinement....and then the car in front could use his turn signals to let the Volvo know that he is going to hug the right or left side to let him pass (instead of a point-by), and then after the Volvo passes, he could say Thank You by using his hazards for a few blinks, or maybe use hazards to let other people know that there is a yellow flag back up of cars ahead....

Or is that not "cool"....for race car driver types...?

Just a thought....since I'm thinking of installing....

Re: Middle finger

I think you will find most people feel use of a horn on the track is not kosher.  The Laughing Clown Malt Liquor BMW that ran at East events was using it at NJ.  They were not making any friends with that practice.

The following year I happened to be teching one of their driver's gear and I asked if they still had the horn in the car.  I was told they did that, and quote, "because the car still had a catalytic converter and was so quiet other drivers didn't know they were behind them".

although if there was and you complained to the judges about recieving the middle finger I kind of expect this to be their response.

Also I find the horn is mainly used to try and inform the Autobahn member who is standing in the middle of the road staring vaguely away from traffic that you kind of have somewhere to be so they should move to the side of the road.

Great video, shows that even though the driver has the bit between his teeth, he still showed restraint and didn't make any low percentage passes, but still made all the passes. In particular, when the car in front looked to be a bit less predictable, your driver would wait the extra beat to make sure his path was clear before proceeding. Nice job

I specifically left my horn on the car and re-wired it to one of the buttons on our "fast and furious" quality quick detach steering wheel specifically so we could voice our displeasure at driver's being too aggro.

In 6 races, I think I've only used it twice.

Hahaha, I still remember that Mustang? with all the horns and sirens getting the Curse, I guess.

We were in the garage next to them...  You know that was Leh Keen driving.  They kept hitting the sirens at 2-4AM which certainly didn't help them not get the curse.  Also, when they got the curse, they were given time to get parts off the car - They grabbed trick shocks, carbon fiber driveshaft, headers, etc.  Complete and total cheater car.

Oh yeah--'twasn't just the horns there! That car was kinda infamous for a while.

(Yo, Keen. Stick to Porsches. I've got some openings in 2017 for you to redeem yourself...hahaha.)

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I always assume it's the passing driver's responsibility to pass safely.

This is what I've always been taught, too, but Lemons is a weirdo. I just try to be predictable if (pah! more like when) I'm slow. I try to remember to point-by (index, not middle) if I don't think the car(s) behind me will pick up that I'm leaving the gate open to blow through. Or if I can't just yet for some reason (yellows, even slower traffic, debris, space goats on the track), I'll sometimes tap my hand at the mirror (whole hand! not just one finger) to at least let them know via gesture that I see them back there.

Wow, not only did you flip him off, a few corners later you hit him with the back of your car even though he clearly had the line!

Seriously though, I really like your fuel cell vent, I think that's what I'm seeing in the rear camera angle. Looks very roll-over and roll-on-side proof.

Yep, that's the vent. Has a check valve at the outlet and a discriminator valve mounted on the passenger side, then loops up and over and comes out on the driver's side below the level of the fuel cell.

Re: Middle finger

Finger well deserved.  Crowding on track and cutting down on a faster car.  That is how people get hurt and racecars end up in the wall.  The contact was a direct result of the driver red-misting and fixating on the leading car not on the track.
