Topic: Chevy V6 width

Can someone do me a favor and measure the width of their Chevy V6 90 degree engine?
It looks like the valve covers are the widest point but if the exhaust manifolds stick out further then at that point.
I have a line on a very cheap 3.8 90 degree engine from a Grand Prix.

Also interested in the width of a 60 degree engine in case the 90 degree doesn't fit.

I've lost a lot, but the Fairlane finally won an IoE.

Re: Chevy V6 width

The 90 deg. V6 is V8 based so it will be the same width as a Chevy small block.

Re: Chevy V6 width

I  measured it with my eyeballs just now on my 2005 Chevy Silverado 4.3 L (262ci) V6

The exhaust manifolds are roughly 2 inches wider than the valve cover at the front of the motor and 4 inches wider at the rear of the motor where the collectors flare out some.

Re: Chevy V6 width

The 3.8 is commonly referred to as a Buick V6 or GM3800.

The SBC V6 is the 4.3, which is a 5.7 w/ 2 cylinder lopped off.

They are both 90* V6s, but completely different engines.

Re: Chevy V6 width

Hello,

I just measured the 2.8L 60 degree V6 in the garage.  You could get it's max width down to 20" if you used tube style manifolds, didn't have PS, and low mounted the alternator.  Low mounting the alternator like I did would probably interfere with a standard RWD steering system.  High mounting the alternator like most stock configurations will make it much wider.  Good luck with the build!

Remind me last year at autobahn how many engines did your car go through compared to the no 60 degree v6 engines that blew up?

Ok... ok..... he is talking about a 90 deg V6 which has more blow-uppity potential then a 60 deg. And yes, we blew up more than our fare share of Mazda BP engines that race. smile

Re: Chevy V6 width

I have a bellhousing, slave cylinder, and clutch fork for a GM 60 degree V6 for sale if you want it.  I'm still running the blow-uppity 90 Degree V6, so I don't need those parts.

Thanks for the offer but I need the Jeep setup to go between the Chevy and W series Toyota trans. I don't want to go down the T5 road.
