Topic: Hooptiefest Fun

Had another great weekend at Loudon with the #100 Pink Buick Park Avenue.  It is an absolute blast racing with everyone and we went from a car last year that was fairly slow with my best lap time being 1:36.707 to this year with my best lap time being 1:31.788.  I think we surprised a few people with how good this big tank actually goes:)  Can't wait until next year!!

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

1:36 is slow? Man, I need to readjust my scale. I was happy when my driver ran a 1:37 and we were all averaging a 1:43.

Nice racing  with you guys.

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

It seemed slow because we were getting passed by a ton of cars.....not so many this year

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

deabroke racing had a great time as well (Blue and white first gen rx7)

Despite how crowded that track can get in NH we found the racing to be pretty clean.  Not our best weekend. We had to pull off track every 45 minutes to refill our radiator as our motor has fianlly given up the ghost after 3 full Lemons seasons.

We managed to turn a 1:30.6 which we were pretty pleased about!  especially on our stock dying motor.

Oh well.  I suppose it just wouldn't be right to not have a massive overhaul project lined up for the winter wink

Seacoast Lemon Heads (Cheatee Cheatee Bang Bang) had a great time at NHMS too!  That Pink Buick very fast for such a hulking mass of automotive excellence.  We managed to cut a second off last years time with a 129.3  (160k mile stock motor ETA)

ERM Racing had a great weekend at NHMS!  Despite being pushed or hauled back from the back straight or turn 3 at least 4 times over the weekend, we kept coming back for more.  Our testing of the car consisted of the 2 laps I had on Saturday morning before the green flag dropped.

Our biggest fix was welding our custom driveshaft back together after the only driver on our team who has driven a RHD car before (he moved here from Ireland) missed a shift coming out of the pits and snapped the nose off the shaft.  Fortunately both pieces made it back with the car and we welded it all back together.

At the end we were awarded "The Most Work To Make An Unrecognizable Movie Car" trophy!

Our driver's door on the Brickmobile could have looked like that also during the 2013 Hooptiefest.  That is why I like NASCAR bars.

Congrats on the award.

Steve here from "thunder for days"(#48 city BMW). This being our second race, but first in loudon...we had a blast! We learned a lot from the new jersey race and the adjustments we made to the car really helped us get a top 20 finish.  Keystone kops...well all the volvos impressed me once again! Thank you guys for helping us through traffic

We were in the #63 "Firebird" BMW pitted next to you guys. Couldn't have asked for more pleasant neighbors! Glad to see those spring compressors worked out well for you.

Slow...try driving the Rover. Our fastest was a 1:42 and there were only a couple of other cars that were slower.

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

Great time running with you all as well in the Cortina.  At some point, I think all the other cars on the track pulled over because I managed a single lap in the low 1:35 range... the rest were 1:37-1:44 in general.  Other than a few Kamikaze moves we managed to dodge, the weekend was pretty clean from my view. Other than some self-inflicted dings due to losing the wheel and axle, Tina came home pretty free of marks!

I was so sad to see you guys sitting wheel-less at the top of the bowl!

That car was so nice, everytime I came up on it I thought in my head "just get by, don't be the one to destroy the cortina"

Guys & Girls -

I had a blast racing with all of you this weekend from behind the wheel of the Park Bench Racing Buick.  Aside from 45 minutes of downtime due to bad fuel injector, we had a near flawless weekend.  No black flags, no other breakdowns.    The track crew was great, I heard (& have) no complaints on flagging compared to this spring @ NJMP, and I have to say the racing was much more in control compared to some of the craziness down at NJMP this past spring.

Now the countdown to the springtime race begins....

My second Lemons race and had a blast again, was driving with The Science Project, same team I drove with @ NJMP.  Was great to be able to walk around to our neighbors and chat about each others cars and help each other keeping our cars running...Can't wait until next year!

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

National Hokey League (#77 Cavalier) had a blast despite our horrendously slow car and Pylon-esque driving. We're rookies and we know it, tried to stay out of everyone's way. Sorry to the #69 miata, I totally cut you off towards the end of the day, didn't have my mirror adjusted correctly. Thanks to park bench racing for the much needed brake cleaner, kept us from stalling out for most of the weekend.

A slow car can still be fun. I love driving the Rover, though it is fun to pass a car now and then.

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

Had a great time in the #116 turbo Chevette!  I wasn't able to beat my 1:29.9 from last year, (only a 1:33.9) but it was real exciting Saturday running #13 overall and only 2nd in class B.  Unfortunately we were plagued by a very tired Chevette.  Exhaust manifold failed, charging issues, and blowing my second transmission.  Sorry for all the backfires.

I wish I knew to grab the judges for the incredible transmission rebuild our team pulled off Sunday morning.  We took parts from the transmission I blew in the 1st NJ race, and this race, and cobbled together a working transmission that allowed us to finish the weekend.  The crazy part was using needle bearings from our spare driveshaft u-joint to replace the missing ones in the front countershaft support bearing.

When a teammate makes the suggestion of bringing damaged parts from a prior race, "You say yes!"  Movie reference - "Are you a god?"  Hahaha

190 days to test and tune at NJ and looking forward to winning with the new and improved Chevette!

Re: Hooptiefest Fun

And also a big thanks to our mysterious guardian angle "John" who luckily knew how to put a Chevette transmission back together. It's never good when a transmission specialist looks at the leftover pieces and says "wow, that's bad". Strangely enough we couldn't source a replacement 1979 transmission on a Sunday morning but as Jim said, the pile of rubble that was the leftover trans from NJMP had enough decent parts to make a semi-functional transmission.  We made it work though and I'm proud of our team for not giving up and being able to finish Sunday.

Certainly a more eventful weekend than we had hoped for but a fantastic time nonetheless.

Oh, and sorry to whichever team we scared the ever living shit out of Sunday afternoon. We were trying to push start the car and it backfired hard right next to a team that was crawling under their car in the paddock.  I would have pooed a little if it were me.

Chevette guys,

We bring a spare 4-speed for our Fiero so we had another stack of parts that might have helped.  Hopefully you never need again, but the offer is out there.

We had a lot of fun watching you guys race, especially because your were our next "closest" target with +69 laps. Yea, we suck at pit stops. smile

It is scary to think that we were ahead of anyone by that many laps.

Reading the C&D article mentioning no German autos in the initial top ten made me recall a great commercial, "Hello this is the German coast guard.  What are you sinking about?"
