Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

Thank you to everyone who showed up and made this event great! We just provide the space (and scones) but you provide the great cars and camaraderie.  My photos are up at https://picasaweb.google.com/1014001983 … turdays004 I think I got everyone and everything that showed up: another great 1930's Chevrolet Commercial Canopy Truck, a nicely sorted and FOR SALE 1986 Golf GTI autocross car, Telsa Roadster, Alfa Giulia SS, a new FIAT 500, Sparky Pete rollin in "Super Spouse's" hot rodded SMART, 1st gen Electric Blue MR2, Peugeot 505 Diesel, Corvair rampside pickup (soon to be for sale on ebay), VW Phaeton, TJ Jeep, Uberbird's Jeep Wagoneer, the "noisebomb" Volvo 142 and Ford Maverick, a beautiful DS with so many different brown tones and a vinyl top (never seen that before in my Citroen life) that had me speechless at it's caramel-ly goodness, a "cheaty"  E30, a 1980's 911 looking amazing in all black, a red 1970's Targa 911T in great condition, the worlds nicest Ford Falcon, a MKI Cortina with some sexy yellow driving lights and the "usual" Citroens and BMW M535 sprinkled throughout the shop. Let's hope for more great weather in April. If you have any suggestions (different time 9am start?, have a "featured gang of idiots and their cars", "field trip" afterwards to some sweet Bay Area destination and/or road (Mines in Livermore?), etc) just let me know. You make this event great so anything you think will make it better will be considered.

Thanks,

Chris Hanzel

Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

This past Friday night Hanzels stayed open to show off the beautiful art of Steven Cavalieri.   http://www.stevencavalieri.com/  If you've purchased a high quality sweat shop made Lemons t-shirt you are familiar with his handiwork.  As for the scene Friday, Nick Pon was right, hundreds of hipsters flooding the streets. Time to get back to normal with Seconds Saturdays this weekend on the 12th.  And by normal I mean a home made electric VW Type III, Ford powered Mercedes Heckflosse, 1930's Chevy Canopy Express ( http://home.znet.com/t1937/trux.html), a cacophony of Citroens, and much much more.  We hope.  Start time is 8ish am til 10ish am @ 456 23rd Street, Oaktown.

See yall then.

Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

May was jammed packed with another great Seconds Saturday turnout that included a SAAB Sonett, all manner of air cooled German hardware and the "usual" gang of Citroens.  As if one day of fun wasn't enough we stayed open the previous Friday for the neighborhood "First Fridays" (what a clever name) and had the honor of a display by Steven Cavalieri that included prints from the books "Racing Colours", posters from the 24 Hours of Lemons, and other original artwork. http://www.stevencavalieri.com/

Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

So we've had two SS events this year and they've been awesome.  Great people, great cars, great weather.  This weekend we are kicking things up a notch with a "field trip to Canepa in Scotts Valley.  Check out the museum that will be open to our motley crew.  http://www.canepa.com/collection/museum … ndex1.html  Meet us at the shop at 8am for the oddest caravan down 880 or meet us at Canepa around 9:30 am.  Email me at secondSSaturdays@gmail.com if you think you will be attending so I can warn them how much oil dry to have on hand.

Oh yeah we're of Facebook now so come post photos and waste more company time looking at who showed up to the last one and what you missed.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/secondSSaturdays/

Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

After being over stimulated at the June road trip to Canepa (I want to go back next year!), SS returned to home base in Oakland.  While I, Chris, was unable to attend due to another friend’s wedding in LA a bunch of new folks and their eclectic cars joined the usual suspects.  The K-it-Forward, Chrysler K-car, (famous for driving to races across the country, then having butt terrible problems at the actual race) made it to SS in the hands Chris Overzet.  As of this weekend it has completed The Ridge and will be handed over to another team to continue this parade across ‘Murica!  I was hoping the magic of SS would rub off on the K (more street legal racecars have won classes in Lemons after attending SS than any other Saturday morning impromptu car gathering) but the K still needs some sorting out.  The Model T GT continued with another overall win and the Devil Camaro of Eric Matson and Co. had a strong finish as well.

As for the non-racecar attendees this month we were treated to a banana yellow Citroen Mehari, a banana yellow 300ZX, a newly re-sculpted posterior on a pale yellow MGBGT, a Volvo 122 on Cragars, an ORNCH Citroen 3CV, yes, 3(!), a Buick in colors meant to blend in with the rest of the Oakland Raiders fans, a different Tesla roadster, everyone’s favorite Ford powered Mercedes, and the most unique of all, the Bay Area Pollution Control Dodge Polara.  Read more at http://clunkbucket.com/air-pollution-patrol/  and check out the period video clip of a Polara pulling over, of all cars, a Citroen DS convertible http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHmFuTfdIko.  Hanzel’s had no part in the making of that film.  I’m hoping the Polara and friends all make it back for the final SS of 2013.  Photos on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set … amp;type=1

Speaking of which, in just over 2 weeks, August 10th is the last get together this year.  We have had great weather and amazing turnouts at each event.  Thanks so much for coming!  Back on the road in their Citroen H van is our friends at El Sur SF www.elsursf.com who will be selling their delicious empanadas.  If you can’t wait til August check out their site for their next location.  In addition to the last SS of 2013 this is the “Are you down with Brown?” gathering.  Brown cars unite to celebrate the greatness of Brown.  Tan, beige, gold-ish, interiors and exteriors, and any other colors of the rainbow are welcome as always.  I just want to see how much Browness can be gathered across the automotive spectrum.  People complaining what is or isn’t brown will be towed away with the HanzLift.  No bad attitudes allowed.

Hope to see you all next month bright and early at 9!

Chris and Henry Hanzel

Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

The last Seconds Saturdays of 2013 had a great turnout with too many great cars to mention one by one.  Take a look at the photos on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set … amp;type=1  The hot and fresh empanadas from El Sur SF were delicious on cool Oakland morning.  Be sure to check out their site to find out where you can find them next.  Email me at SecondSSaturdays@gmail.com if you'd like to find out when we meet again next year.  Spread the word and lets see what great 'new' cars and car people can come and join us in 2014!

Thanks,

Chris Hanzel

Re: Hanzel Auto Body Works Presents "Seconds Saturdays"

Calling all hoopties, classics, hot rods, customs, low riders, BROdozers, and pulley'n'flows.  Henry and I are happy to announce the first gathering for Seconds Saturdays in 2014 with be April 12th! We hope to see all our old favorites (cars and people) and a bunch of new visitors. As before we’ll have room in the shop, the lot across the street, and metered street parking. Please be sure to drive carefully in the area so as to not run over feral children and car nerds too busy staring at the vehicles that they are ignoring their own safety.

Also, the San Francisco Citroen Car Club will be gathering en mass as our first ‘featured group of cars no longer sold in the US’ before they depart for a club drive through the east bay.

We hope to see everyone in April at 9am!
