Or make sure you are in the driver's seat at dusk.
Innovative ideas at work, Lemons style:
I'm thinking maybe we should all pitch in to have those citronella-oil tiki torches placed every 10' around the track. That will reduce the prevalence of the mosquitos while simultaneously solving the track lighting problem! It will also help with the enclosed-trailer burning ceremony and should provide a sufficiently eerie lighting scheme for the midnight crushing of the people's curse. Open flame plus flammable liquids and motorsport-based shenanigans, what could possibly go wrong?
What say ye?
Sounds like a solid plan to me.
Maybe a penalty could be to make the offenders kill mosquitos. The team can reenter the track when 50 dead mosquitos are presented to the judges. With the number of penalties 130 cars will get, the place should be bug free for weeks!
Perhaps send someone out with a fogger a couple days before and fog everything. Hell, even some basic spray stuff in the tire walls would likely kill a good percentage.
Bring back DDT!!!! I remember running through the DDT fog banks as a kid in San Diego in the 1960s...

And look what it's done to you -- brain damage enough to enter not one but two Lemons races inside a month! Rachel Carson couldn't make a better argument against DDT than that one.

Try a British sports car....it's always a Silent Spring
Evergreen Dan, well written - it's sounds like you are starting to get the full flavor of Nelsons.
Nelson's is to race tracks same as Lemons is to sports car racing.
Both are rough around the edges but both are damn fun and their heart is in the right place. True Racers to the End (of their budgets)
They truly are made for each other.

back to the "mosquito" bit...
really? I hate freaking mosquitos!!!! So I need to load up with bug spray as well?
Thermocells work real good & dont forget the refills
Maybe build something like this:

You probably have lots of time to kill before NL anyway...
You don't think the exhaust from our fine machines will be enough to ward off the bugs? I know all the emissions equipment works on our car... sure why not!

65w lows 100w highs 65w Hella Driving lights Hopefully we have enough lighting
How did you aim the high beams seprately from the low beams? I assumed they didnt want us using high beams...
I am trying to decide that on our car. Do we run the high beams or low beams? We have 7" round 55W/65W H4s. They will obviously be aimed correctly, but the beams themselves are shaped different for the low and high. High are higher wattage, but might be too narrow. Our aux lights are Hella 500s at 55W. Those might be cheated to the right a bit since NL is mostly RH turns.
Jeff, I really am looking forward to seeing the datsun run.. I love those cars.
I was assuming highs were ok we aligned our setup a little low so our highs are only a touch above our cutoff and our lows sit about 3in low at 25 ft putting our highs 1 in above standard alignment at 25ft
Here is our lighting setup. The lights aren't aimed yet and the one wasn't even tight at the time of this pic, so it's sitting a bit crooked. Again, we have 55/60W Autopal H4s and 55W Hella aux lights.
we have about 6 gazillion candle power.
aim? what is this word aim? Out chassis is so twisted it makes aiming really difficult.
6x 55 watters... though I am probably going to use 100w in the round ones.
Those look pretty good Bill, We are along the same lines, but utilized headlights and a set of driving lights mounted in fog location.
So far, so good. Last night we started the car and turned on both sets of lights. The car kept running and the lights were bright. We haven't tried the wipers and blower plus all the lights, but as bright as they looked, we might just be okay with the measly stock 50amp alternator.
We have a 55w 6" Round set where the OEM headlights used to be on our sentra facing foward, and a 55w rectangular set down where the fogs were facing out for the apex. I think we're gonna have to go get more though, doesn't seem very bright.
Just got this email from the technical guy for our #39 car:
Dude, really?
• There is no limit on the total number of lights. However, lights must not be unduly dazzling or distracting to others.
• All lights must be properly aimed. Cars with mis-aimed lights may be black-flagged at any time.
• Teams whose lights are deemed overly dazzling, insufficiently bright, badly aimed, or problematic in any other way may be black-flagged at any time.

I'm assuming he's aimed it properly and that it isn't too dazzling, since it is a road-going HID from some other honda product. My main concern about rules was that it might be too high.
I also want to say that though I think it is cool looking, I am not claiming to be certain that this light setup will pass tech.
Here's another look at the monstrosity:
