We just let the car outside when it was super cold. 

5 minutes with a rubber mallet and it was ALL out.

Yours must have been a whole different composition than what was in the Saturn.

Besides, burning it was fun and is good for you.

It helped that it was below 0 degrees for several days in a row!

Our car was old enough that it didn't have any kind of sound deadening, or maybe it was all removed when the previous owner repaired the floors. The difficult part was removing the 3/8" or so of fiberglass resin that the previous owner had poured in to fix the rust holes. That was a terrible job that we pawned off on a new guy as soon as we figured out the basics, and I have to wonder to this day whether that's what caused him to never come back to work on the car again.
