Anyone know the configuration yet? I would guess it's the full track, CW, sans-chicane again?

I hope so, though C-CW could be fun too.

That brings the wall at 17 into play a little too much for Lemons. I'm hoping they run it the same way they did last time. Full track clockwise was awesome, and made for clean racing.

Pit Wall would need a LOT of padding!

Oh yeah, that pit wall was tough to stay away from during a HPDE. Can't imagine how many would be bouncing off of it in a Lemons race.

Full track clockwise was lots of fun last fall.

Re: Getting ready for MSR Houston

So we will be driving out from FL to TX for this event.  I am watching Videos on youtube so I can pre learn the track and get an idea of the traffic.
I see one of the races had a Tire wall Chicane added. But the last race didnt have this?

Also what was the car count in the past events. 90 ish cars?

If any one has some non edited video of a few laps please let me know so I can get an idea of the coarse lay out.

Thanks

Re: Getting ready for MSR Houston

Here's a video of a few laps from a Spec Miata race ... I watched it last year to get ready. The video starts with the cars going through Carousel and onto the front straight under the S/F.

We ran about 140 cars in the last race.

Full Course.

No Chicanes.

Yep and it was really clean because people had room to get around each other. 10x's better than the shorter version.

WOW, I am worried about my ebay bought parts getting here in time to get it put together and to the muffler shop, and you guys are just now having a cage put in. I think I will calm down a bit.

Once the cage is in, I'd say that the car's about 90% done. After it gets back, all we have to do is put on shocks (when we bought the car and pulled the wheels, we found that one of the rear shocks was leaking and was being held together with duct tape), put in the harness, wire the battery disconnect switch, etc...

Plus, I work for the gubment so the weekend before MSRH is a 3-dayer for me!

MSR-Houston is a fun track to drive, but it's not technically challenging. IMHO, there's only one really tricky corner (Diamond Edge?), the one coming off the back straight. It's easy to overcook the brakes there, but otherwise it's just a fun ride and there really is a lot of room to pass; I have a photo on my computer at home of cars going 4-wide through Sugar/Spice (a/k/a Turn 1) at last fall's race. Not that I 'd recommend that maneuver, but there is room for it so long as the guy on the inside doesn't try to drift out. There is a ton of paved runoff on the trackout of Turn 1, so if you're alone or clean, you can take the turn faster than it looks like you could take it if you're just looking at the overhead maps. In the past, there's been no penalty for using the paved runoff as additional track area smile

Wish that I could be there. Have fun.

Our car got stuck in the gravel.

I think we got a delayed penalty for it.

The Bus Stop is what gets me.  I think I am about to be curving right onto the back straight from the Keyhole and then, OOPS.  I've gotta go thorough the Bus Stop.

If they ran the Sweeper up to the Key Hole, I would be way happier and we would be going we way freakin' faster down the back straight too.

It's pretty easy to calculate how much work you have left.

The first 90% takes 90% of the time budgetted to complete.

The next 10% also takes 90% of the time to complete...

So true, so true ... I'm just wondering which of the last little things that I've budgeted 2 hours for will end up taking 10+?

10 days left.  No seat, harness, rubber, or the remainder of the cage tubing has arrived.  I'm feeling screwed at this point.  I worked on sorting out some fiddly bits over the weekend.  So much for being ahead of plan in December...

Re: Getting ready for MSR Houston

We are getting somewhere.  Had a productive weekend, Joe welded for most of 2 days and we have a newly completed exhaust and jump seat installed.

The car sounds better but doesn't want to idle when cold and it still isn't charging but we are closer now than we were on race day last October...

11 more days...

Re: Getting ready for MSR Houston

we are getting really close. The MX6 gt that we built for the 1st and 2nd MSR races killed turbos in short order, like 2 hours. We are 90% done with swapping a small t3 turbo from a merkur that we picked up at the pick n pull for $50. Hopefully it will hold up and we can actually finish a race.

Re: Getting ready for MSR Houston

Spent the weekend painting the car. Got a gallon of orange free and bought a quart or Red rustoloium from Lowes. Paint job 9 bucks.

The good thing about driving a pre raced car is there is less to do. I checked the Diff and Transmission fuild. Lucky I did the tranmission fluid was in bad shape. Also added ducting for the front brakes, I am guessing this track is hard on Brakes.
So far $129 spent.
