Topic: Looking to buy race-ready car(s)

I'm working on putting together a team for High Plains Drifter this year, comprised of people that are based all over the place. We won't really have the ability to build a car, so we're looking to buy something race-ready, preferably close to Colorado. You can message me through the forum, or email joe@ditommasso.com. Thanks!

Also check out the multiple facebook forums.  Maybe someone will post the facebook page here.  And also try craigslist.  Look under cars.  Include all areas around you, and use the search term 'race car' or 'roll cage'

Re: Looking to buy race-ready car(s)

So, number of people on the team, number of cars expected... these are helpful. Also, there are many teams that have arrive and drive options and can be convinced to take on newbies.

I might know where a couple of seats are. Also, this is way early planning for something that happens in 6 months. This is Lemons. We're not good at planning.

Arrive and Drives start to open up a couple of months out usually. Prices range from kinda cheap to not very cheap. Speed and reliability work the same way.

Mostly you are paying for your share of consumables and your share of entry fees. Some teams are stricter than others, and some have complicated ownership structures.

Hi Joe,

You might asking about available Lemons cars on FB, specifically in the Colorado Lemons Mafia group.  It is pretty active and your question might cajole someone into letting go of one of their flock.  Also it's a good place to find open seats for HPR races if you can't secure a car before June.

Good luck!

Re: Looking to buy race-ready car(s)

There is a Colorado-specific Lemons facebook group that is very active and originally created by a Lemons Judge out of Denver area.  They are amazingly helpful even for Lemons folks, "Colorado Lemons Mafia".

Re: Looking to buy race-ready car(s)

Joe.  As far as head count, our team usually takes 4 drivers for 1 car.  That way, each of us gets 90  minutes or so of seat time on Saturday  and again on Sunday.  On a 24 hour race, we take 6 drivers.   How many drivers do you have that will really pony up $1000 each?    (When you add up admission, race suits, gas, hotels, everything but the car, you are usually at $1000 a driver)

Re: Looking to buy race-ready car(s)

We're at 6 people committed, with probably 4 more potential. So at least one full car. We're open to doing arrive and drive, but I figured we've got too many people to get us all on one team. I've got Lemons and Champcar experience, but I'm not local to Colorado. We're shooting for the September race. It's a long way off, but there's a lot of stuff that we need to sort out.

Six people is a good number for one car for the September HPR 24 hour race, too many for a normal race.

Well you're in for a treat with HPR.  Great track and great management.  Might try to get in some open lapping during the spring as they have cheaper rates until the summer season gets going after the first week of April.
