Topic: real hoopoes of NJ

hey all this is the first year we are getting to run the real hoopoes of NJ race, i was wondering if anyone had info on the Friday test and tune day, I called the tracking takes to a few different people and left messages but have not heard back, just wanted to see what I needed to do to set my team up for the test and tune day.

also on a side not about test and tune, I know the track normally runs these days not Lemons, if we had a rookie that is going to crew for us and is not ready for full on racing are we able to get him on track for the test and tune day?

as always thanks for any and all help!

At our very first race in NH in 2020  I tried to get a NON Lemons driver out for Friday practice and he was denied. We paid the track fee, It was disappointing, Not sure if that is still the case but don't assume.

Heck have him sign up as a driver for the race. If he or she  is ready for practice then they are ready enough. . Our rookies just have to fog a mirror and we'll make them team captain.

Good luck and see you in June !

hey jimmy, I called and they can't get on track, I think we are going to sign him up as a driver and let him do test and tune in the afternoon, as far as racing its one of the teammates sons that is finishing his first year in college and is going to learn to drive stick when he gets home so I don't think we want him in a full race situation yet.

on a side note we finally got the GTI apart that the clutch was shredded and there was metal sparkles in the trans as well as broken bearings so we have a replacement transmission and new clutch and other parts on there way so we are going to be looking to take that Cordoba cup home!!!!

Re: real hoopoes of NJ

It varies from track to track. Some allow any driver, some only allow drivers registered for the Lemons race. Barber and NOLA allow you to sign up any driver for test, and I think MSR does, too. Atlanta does not (it is one of the few test days run by Lemons).

Re: real hoopoes of NJ

hey all, thanks for the info, I was able to get some answers and I figured that I would share them, at NJMP they are having test and tune, the cost is $402 with the processing fee ($2.00) that includes up to 15 drivers but they have to be registered with Lemons.

that is the link for signing up as it was not easy to find and they are limiting it to 55 cars for the Friday test day.

hope this helps

Re: real hoopoes of NJ

Just an FYI, in case anyone cares.  I think there is some crazy NJ rule/law about safety workers not being on track with the cars on a test/track day.  Last year all the test day cars had to return all the way back to the PADDOCK (not pit road) every time a car needed a tow.  I think during the period I was running, in about 30 mins I got about THREE laps due to this.

Translation:  If you think you'll be running the whole test day....well good luck with that!

Related, for anyone who's never been to NJ, we might need to start a thread about their (other) crazy laws so teams don't get caught with their pants down.  I'll check, but all that info should be added to the Lemons Race Info page IMO.

Edit - I just checked and there is a footnote on the VERY LAST line of the race info page with a link to the FORTY-NINE page document "MOTOR VEHICLE RACETRACK REGULATIONS".  Yes I have read it.  It still baffles ne how the state can police a race track rules on private property, but I digress.  For those first timers to NJ, here are couple of foot notes for you:

1.  All gasoline containers must be RED in color.  The quick-dump white ones are NOT legal in NJ.
2. You cannot pump your own gas in NJ.  Pumping gas is hard in NJ I guess, so they have 'state certified' attendants at the gas stations.
3.  Rule number #2 also applies to the fuel pumps at the track.  You can't fuel you own car from the pump at NJMP.
4.  Related to rule #1, the station attendants are not supposed to dispense gas into NON-RED containers.  From what I hear it's a HUGE fine if they are caught doing so.
5.  You can possibly circumvent rule #1 by painting your white cans red.  Last year we transferred the fuel from the red to our quick-fill white cans at the track, but technically the white cans are still illegal.

Looking forward to seeing you that weekend, VK! :-D

As an addendum: when I refueled our cans at the track, the worker said he didn't care and filled anything/everything. But yes, generally all fuel cans have to be red or clearly marked FUEL ONLY with either red stickers or permanent red marker. The non-self pumping thing though is a royal PITA.
