As someone who commutes 500+ miles a week, cars with things like directional staggered tire sizes, rock hard suspension, and less than 30mpg get pretty expensive and tiring.   I'd love to drive something sportier, but it just doesn't make a whole ton of sense.  However, I am considering a BMW 320i 6-speed sport package for my next car which might be a good compromise on all those fronts without dropping $45k

I'f I'm easy and steady on the gas at 70mph, I can hit 40mpg, but still can just spin all 4 wheels if I hit it just right, and suspension is "soft rock" hard wink You can have it all! I've got to move to the "free" state of texas where emissions are more restrictive so gonna have to find some new wheels myself. Gonna cost me though to get what I want. If I get close enough to the new job, it will probably be an electric assist bicycle or a moped.

My DD is a VW Type 181 Thing, with too big tires and two too big Weber carbs.  It's fun with the top down, but not so much with the top up.  Worst with the sidecurtains in.  I'm hoping to get it on the market in the next month or so, after I take possesion of my daughter's '00 Beetle when her new car comes in.  I'm going to attempt to rat rod it.  I haven't been able to find a single picture of a New Beetle rat rod that wasn't a photoshop, so it may not be possible.

I'm currently driving the Planet Express while my M3ti is getting a window fixed. It's awesome for long trips. The lack of sound deadening and lack of muffler get old, but it's very comfortable with our hacked springs.

my DD is a 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited . I know the screen name is not fitting but In the past I have had a slew of nissan/datsun's, if the jeep stops running then onto the wifes 2003 toyota Corolla. when she decides to get a new car I might try to convince her that I need to turn it into a Lemon... LOL dont think she will go for it.

I agree completely. A little part of me died when I bought a new Prius but considering that this toaster gets me 49MPG without any change in my driving style and eliminates one more car I have to service regularly (leaving more time for my Lemons project car), I can fake being an adult for a while.

PS. It did require a rear swaybar to make the handling less mini-van like though and the Torque BT app to turn off some seriously annoying beeps.

The tickets are too expensive when I drive something sporty on the street.  Racing is cheaper...

Did someone say "sporty" cars?!? The best kind of sporty cars are the barely sporty cars, where you can race all day long and hardly exceed the speed limit.

One of these is my daily driver. The rest WERE daily drivers, but you know... because race car. I call it the trail of broken dreams.

Also, I find my DD makes a pretty good tow-truck in a pinch.

It was my track day car for year, until Lemons ruined that hobby. It's still my DD.

My 92 750SS has been a thrilling daily driver... mostly because of all the idiot drivers trying to kill me during my commute.

Re: what is your daily driver?

My DD history:

1997 Buick LeSabre Limited (was my mom's, but I used to drive her to work four days a week and then drive it to school, so it counts)
2004 Buick LeSabre Limited (stupidly traded it in right at 100K)
2007 Jeep Liberty Sport CRD (for some reason I took this over a 2008 WRX for the same price, still don't know why)
2012 Ford Focus SEL hatchback (had to sell it)
2006 Mercury Milan Premier (my mom's)
2005 Buick LeSabre Limited (my grandmother's old car)

I sense a pattern.

Re: what is your daily driver?

I am learning from this thread that I am playing with a group of guys/gals well above my pay grade.

Current DD: 98 Neon, dents in driver's door and roof, takes 15 minutes to pump in 10 gallons of gas, has almost 180,000 miles on the odometer (which doesn't work half the time), has very little paint left, and cost me $300.  Gets 36 MPG

Previous: 92 Metro, bought for $300 with 80,000 miles.  Sold it for $200 with 170,000+ miles and got 32 MPG.

Wife's DD: 91 Spirit, given to us by a friend after he hit a deer with it and the insurance company totalled it.

I'm looking at this big diaper thing behind the bug's body and just out of curiosity, how much of the engine (and vehicles) weight was behind the rear wheels?

07 Subaru Legacy GT
AWD for the bad weather, Turbo for the good weather, nice interior for when stuck in traffic.

This generation they decided they were going to take on the germans especially the 3 series.  While can't say it is as nice, it was far cheaper and a way better bang for the buck when comparing it to the awd 3 series.  They must have decided to not try that after this gen cause the Legacy has definetly gone a different direction, bigger, not as good looking, no turbo, not as nice interior, I don't even think manual is an option in the states.
