I'm guessing the drop in windows work because the miata doesn't have an upper window frame? It's a cool idea.

Paint is miraculous! It is one of the few things I know that can take a shitty car (no offense) and turn it into a thing of beauty. You can take a hoopty and a couple of cans of Krylon and get thumbs up all day, meanwhile the tailpipe is spewing a thick black, slightly sweet cloud of automotive chemicals. Good job!

Both cars made it thru yesterday.  Friday is the mountain climbing day.  The 1.6 Mazda's did about as well as you could expect.  ...And they survived to race around the Copper Canyon today. 

Sunday is my favorite day, you need less skill and more car.  It's raced mostly on flat straights but there are a couple sneaky #5 turns with no guard rails and ravines.

Copper Canyon is beautiful; my wife and I went there on several church mission trips. We had a pre-wedding commitment ceremony overlooking the canyon. There's a good ice cream shop on the town square in Creel if you get the chance.

I had ice cream in Creel!   Pretty damn good.

We went off course yesterday but ended up barely tweaking a tie rod and flat spotting the front tires.

It was a miracle we didn't hit a rock or tree or end up in a ravine .

Swapped the front tires with the back and continued today and.....

We Finished !

Mission completed .

Make sure your car can turn and stop without fail.

Some of the drops, ravines, and rocks are no joke.  No amount of safety gear may be able to  save you from a fuck up in the wrong spot.

Your car must be able to travel 100+ mph all day.   There are 1-2 hour + transits on public roads and you simply can't make your check in times unless you drive fast!

Other than that, I encourage anyone who wants to come play - to do it.

It's a life changing event to complete this.   Seriously!

There is nothing that closely compares to this in the states.   I think many racers think they will immediately be murdered upon crossing the border and this simply isn't the case.

The people are friendly and treat you like a rock star while there is a race.

Run red lights.   Speed!   Pass the cops!   Race hard!

The cops thing is an odd thing to get in your head.  I was in a transit stage and was going double plus the speed limit. A cop pulled up next to me and gave me a thumbs up so I nailed it and left him behind - he caught up to me in his Charger and gave us a big grin and another thumbs up.

It was weird because they keep their lights on all the time and at first I thought he was getting us.

The Chihuahua is the best race in Mexico!
