Re: autopower bolt in cage

I have done a couple bolt-in cages in E30 BMWs.  In general, you should not drill any holes in the car until all the pieces are bolted together.

I'm a big fan of welded in reinforcing plates under the cage feet.  If you have the tools and skills, weld some .080 to .120 thick steel plates into the car where the bolt in cage feet sit.  Run plates up rocker sills or adjacent vertical surfaces for additional strength.  Then, drill your mounting holes.

Don't forget to add the 2nd driver side door bar to be Lemons legal.  You may also have to add a 2nd harness bar to satisfy harness angle and seat back requirements.  If you need help with this stuff and are willing to haul the car up to north Jersey, we might be able to help you out in exchange for pizza and beer.  I know we have a few extra feet of 1.5x.120 DOM.  If your car is heavier than 3000lbs, you will need to find some 1.75x.120 DOM for the door bar.

Re: autopower bolt in cage

I installed an Autopower bolt-in cage in my non Lemons track car. ( Porsche 914-6 )
I welded it in instead.
