Topic: cage padding question

I ordered the Long Acre "ProTecto" padding from saferacer.com for our roll bar padding. Upon further inspection, they also sell a "high density" padding. According to the rules, it looks like I need the latter. How does one determine how high density "high density" is? Better yet, does anyone know if the stuff I ordered will pass tech?

is what I ordered

Thanks!

Re: cage padding question

If it says SFI rated, it's the good stuff.  Also, if it's less than about $18 for 3ft, it's the non-SFI padding.  I was thinking about using the SFI padding on the areas where the helmet and knee could contact, but the cheaper stuff within hand-only reach.

Summit Racing sells Kirkey SFI padding for $17.95/3ft. They also have the non-SFI Kirkey for $2.00/3ft.

Re: cage padding question

Yes I realize it's not SFI. That wasn't so much the question. Saferacer has basic for $4/36", "high density" for $16/36", and SFI for $20/36".  The rules definitely don't say that SFI is needed.

Re: cage padding question

The basic padding is fine for your cage padding. I used the high-density stuff up high, basically anywhere the helmet might contact the cage because the last thing you want is the padding bottoming out when the helmet strikes it in a collision. But you're legal with the cheap stuff. They just don't want people using pipe insulation from Home Depot or swim noodle foam instead of real race car roll bar padding.
