Topic: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

Team Rob etc. will be at NL with the same crappy '90 golf we ran at Stafford '08.   We are planning on bringing a Mig, but don't have 220v hookup for it.  Looking for a team that has power for our welder and wants to pit next to us.  We have lots of food, beer, tools and at least 2 decent mechanics.  We can also help with fueling as well.  Also wondering if anyone is bringing a MKII VW to race so we can compare notes.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

Booby Prize Racing (Pink Nissan).  We'll have a welder with 220v twist lock so long as you have the right whip for your welder.  We'll also have a 120V Mig but we aren't bringing the tank, flux core only.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

We will have a 3800 honda generator at our trailer , not sure if this is enough help but it does have a 220 plug.. and we have canadian beer.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

Come to the Canadian paddock (are you team rob and his loser friends?  you're Canadian anyway, right?) and park by #571, we'll have a 10kW generator.  Probably won't have argon though, it'd be a pain to haul through the border.

Edit: We will no longer have a big generator.  The owner of the generator got cold feet at his generator being so far away and surrounded by so many people.

Car to Pit telemetry (OBD2, GPS, and analog inputs) with little more than a phone, router, and laptop.  It's not MacGuyver, it's WifiLapper (forum | facebook)

The Junk Player Special team is running an A-3 Jetta.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

We are team rob his two (three this year) loser friends and stupid brother.  Driving to NL from Montreal on Thursday.  We will have plenty of Canadian beer to share as well.  We will bring a 170amp mig with flux core as well.

Hopefully someone else shows up with a MKII VW.  We have a ton of spares but are missing some critical parts like rear spindles.  After our bearing failing in stafford we are kinda stupid not to have at least one spare.

Hopefully we have everything finished in time.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

We are running a 86-88 MKII golf GTI.  We don't have spare rear spindles, but will have some other spares.  Look for car #190.

BTW, we have a spare water pump off the Junk Player parts car.  Thanks Spud, we will give it back. smile

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

OK sweet.  Shoot me an email to robertkrieble at hotmail dot com we need to figure some stuff out.  Between the two teams one can finish.

I have one piece of advice don't run any wheel bearings.  That way they can't break.  Its the only solution.  We are #77.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

We have 220V and we have a Scirocket. It's the Frankenrocco.

I will try to remember to bring you some rear spindles. We're running drums, so we shouldn't need any of the disc spindles we have.

Re: NL: Have welder, need power. Anyone running a VW?

We are running drums as well.  One of the spindles on the car is already in questionable shape.  Hopefully I have time to pick up a set with bearings before we leave.  We have lots of other spare parts that we can share in a pinch.  Our spare engine is freaking amazing.  It was left outside without spark plugs in it and was completely seized.  We took it apart, honed the cylinders and broke the lower compression ring on three pistons trying to remove as they were rusted in place.  Put it all back and simply left out the broken rings.  Should be a runner.  Hopefully we don't need it.
