Topic: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

And when I say chasing, I mean "watching it fade into the distance".  The supra's 2nd driver was quick and effective through traffic.

This video was taken about 2 hours into the race.

Re: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

At the end of the video I was driving our  .357 supra and was able to stick with the black supra, that sucker was fast, and was a lot better setup then our supra. (would like to see that suspension setup) I was just happy to be able to stick with them.

Good video though bongle!

That Supra was one of the three past Lemons winners at Nelson Ledges. Those were:

Bernie's Revenge Supra, Flat Rock 2007 (was the #30 green TrackAddicts car at NL)

Sofa King Supra, Toledo 2008 (was the #28 Team Topless car at NL)

Kielbasa Kids Civic, New England 2009

We also had the Latch Key Kids (green Neon), who have finished in the top three of at least three other races and are always a real threat to win, plus at least a dozen multiple top-ten-finish veterans. The Booby Prize guys deserve serious respect for managing to beat all these heavyweights.

Re: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

That supra sounded mean.

The Latch Key Kids neon had to be beyond the exhaust db limits.  It was giving us headaches in our paddock at Turn 3.

Also, did anyone notice that the diesel-powered #123 Blitzen-Benz finished seventh? Best lap time: 1:33.070. You don't need to be very fast to contend in this race.

Just watched your video, and having never been to NL that track looks very narrow compared to CMP.  Is that correct?  You can easily go three wide and CMP and each car have pavement leftover.

Re: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

NL looked narrower when we walked it, but I don't know that it really was.  3-wide was easy everywhere.  4-wide with 2-in-the-grass was doable. (ask me how I know)

NL drives a lot different than how it looks.  It's a very enjoyable track to drive.  Was even better when they got rid of those stupid cones in the kink!

Before the race, I actual measured various tracks on google earth so I could guess at how NL was going to be.

I think CMP was 12-16 meters wide.  Nelson was 8 meters most of the way, with a few sections (turns 12 and 13 mainly) getting to 10-12 meters.  Going 3 wide was a very scary experience at Nelson.

From an observer's perspective, they seemed pretty fast - I saw a lot more acceleration into the straitofways than I would have expected for that car.

They had quite the suspension, didn't think a big sedan could corner so flat!

Interesting.  I'd have not guessed it was that much narrower than CMP.  Still, 8 meters is 26 feet to us Americans.  wink  And 26 feet is plenty wide enough for 3 typical narrow Lemons cars with many feet to spare.  As long as you weren't trying to squeeze between the Pink Caddy and Crown Vic, 3 wide wasn't that bad as long as people cooperated.

I think cooperation is the key element that a lot of people missed.  It's an endurance race!  Just let the faster cars by.  They'll be out of your hair in 2 seconds if you let them... or they can be a threat to your safety (and everyone elses) if you force them to stay in your mirror for 3 turns.

How long does it take to get stuff on mylaps? I don't even see the event there.

BTW Loren, I don't who was driving the first stint on Sunday at CMP, but here is a 3 minute video of me right behind your car.  I was actually behind you for 3 more minutes before I was able to use the Mercedes as a blocker in T12 and get by.  I think I could out brake you but that mad-tite I-6 torque was too much for our gut-less no vtak yo! That's a fun clip, VKX24.  That outside pass at about 2:45 was brilliant, my kind of move!

I wasn't with Euro Trash at that race, not sure who was driving.  I'm sure Barry will catch this, he'll know.  (may even have been him)

Cool.  We were pitted about 3 garages down from them and I spoke to a couple of the guys and told them I should have some good video.  I have about 3 minutes more, but my editing program chopped it off early.

Your car was quite teh fast too- I experienced a few of your "I can fit in that gap" passes in front of me.  RE the black #28 supra, did you know the dudes running that car are from Pratt & Miller- the professional race car building Pratt & Miller?  smile

So their car better have some special little tricks they've learned over the years of building seriously fast race cars, and i'm sure there's a reason they picked the supra.

Funny thing though.  One of their guys told me they thought a '88 camaro (#66 chitown hustlers) was the car to have.  I kinda disagreed on account of the crappy auto trannys those cars are known for, plus their potential for overheating.  However the TBI engine is rather indestructable

Re: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

A short one from #39.  This is about the only off they recorded in 2 hours of video, it is Team Powerthirst putting 2 off and losing control.

Heh,  I was following suit of the 28 supra.  We never did touch anyone out there on the track.  I did notice they were from pratt and miller by the suits.  That car was fast!  I had some great battles with that car and the little black crx with stripes.. wish our motor could have stayed together haha

Although, Kevin,  I liked your car, she looked good and ran well!

Re: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

When I saw your car early in the race (I drove 2nd, starting about 1.5 hrs into the race) and yours passed me like I was sitting still, I yelled "fuck those supras got some GO"  Plus they sound very sweet, much like the Alfa Milanos.

Thanks for the compliments.  The amish theme was well received and we played the part pretty well in tech.  The car itself needs some suspension help because it bodyrolls like a mofo and it's very tail happy.  The engine is killing us- hesitates with no power below 3K and it has a 4.5K redline.   By race's end, it was backfiring at all RPMs and shooting flames.   Very fouled plugs and misfiring cylinders.......  Need to figure out what's f'ed up in the fuel injection before we do another race.  It's extremely frustrating and not fixing itself!   smile

That being said we're pleased with 29th.  We feel we're better than that, but we're happy we made it to the finish (and finished in a very respectable 29th), beating many cars that were much faster than us.  I think with some tweaks we can get this pile of sheet to be MUCH more driveable!

Kevin

Re: #39 chasing the #28 Supra

Those 'e' engines are pretty hardy. We pushed the crap out of the 528. Ours was running very well, other than the fact that the light we mounted on the dash bar covered the oil idiot light. Is it bad to not have any oil on the dipstick at the end of the race??

The biggest problem with the car was the last left-right on the front. No torque above 4k, no torque below 3k, third was not high enough RPMS and second was too high. I can't tell you how many times I screamed at all of you folks passing me as I rowed through the gears trying to get back to the sweet spot.
