Topic: I think I have a problem

Ever since I returned from Lemons South Fall, all I can think about is the next race: How can we make our theme better, should we go with a new theme(which, by the way, I have thought of a really good one), what will be our stratagy at the next race, how can we make our car better on the cheap, can I convince the other guys to also start going to the New Orleans event, etc...

Also, every crap box I come across I eyeball as a possible Lemons replacement car or , if I could talk my wife into in, having a 2nd (all girl) team join us.

I know the fix is to do another Lemons race but they are spaced too far apart.

I need help.

The Lamest Day was last week.
I drove there from Orlando, so you really have no excuse for not being there.

Re: I think I have a problem

I've had that problem since the first Houston race... when I wasn't even a driver.  Since joining the boyz in the racing seat, it's only gotten worse.  Every time I see a Neon, I think "Parts car!"

More races won't fix your problem.

I didn't know you came up from Orlando, Ron.  Anybody else besides us make the trip?

Chumpcar will help with that too.  More chances to do stupid racing.  I can't wait.

More money.  Lots and lots more money, so you can do a race every weekend.

Re: I think I have a problem

Yes this is addicting. There is no cure. My wife is sick of me eating, talking, breathing, sleeping, thinking, spending money on the race car and the next race. It's a bad disease........

Re: I think I have a problem

After the Lamest Day, my wife really wants to drive.  She had a great time and wants me to hit more races next year.  As if me being hooked isn't hard enough on the wallet!  It really is worse than crack!

It is highly catchable.  No known cure.  We are already deep in planning for the next one.  Planning on 3 or 4 next year.  My wife has no idea.

I don't think there were any other Floridians who made it up. I picked up a buddy in Charleston, SC on the way up...

We all appear to be addicted to SPEED!!!!

Jay's the Dealer with Nick as his right hand man, Jonny and Phil are the street pushers.

Aside from more races, DE's, Karting or Autocrosses may offer short term relief.

John at Chumpcar see's the addiction and wants in on the action too.

I have to admit that towing a $500 "race car" 1200 miles for a 24-hour race had us all scratching our heads on the way up.  But, come race day, it all made sense!

Of course, on the way home (especially while waiting 6 hours for roadside RV tire repair), we were back to wondering why we were there again.

Hey, Rob... just think how many Lemons races you could afford to do if you sold your Boxster!  You know, you can race without being a part of a "team", too, right?  Just pick a race that you want to do, and post your "resume" in the HR section.  $500-700 + an airplane ticket will usually get you in a race!

Welcome to your addiction. It only gets worse. Advanced symptoms include:

- Friends, family, girlfriends avoid you because they're sick of hearing about your stupid car/race.
- The staff at AutoZone, Pick-Your-Part, Home Depot, Industrial Metal Supply, Snap On, etc. all know you by name.
- Your hands/clothes are constantly covered in some form of car dirt.
- Your bank account is unusually low/empty.
- You pretend you're racing every time you drive a car.
- You grade every 20+ year old car you see on its potential as a Lemons racer.
- You seriously consider driving half-way across the country to get another fix.
- You have asked friends/family more than once to reschedule birthdays/weddings/reunions that conflict with race weekends.

Team go karting and track days are the Lemons methadone to help with withdrawal symptoms after a race. I am thinking of starting a SoCal chapter of Lemons Anonymous.

Mine neither...bought a generator and it's still hidden in the back of the garage. The 500 buck car is OK with her, but the extras add up. Funny thing is I took her to a driving school and she loved it...but wants to go straight to open wheel in a school series. If I can get her in the car once, I think I can turn her around...you can learn a lot of racecraft in Lemons...

Re: I think I have a problem

I have been planning for 4 events next year  Since that other series has 2 events in Fl we will be attending them. Plus once the new Lemons schedule is released I feel there will be a few more events in the South to attend.  My wife has also been driving on our team and she is talking about doing 3.. so ill have to get her on board for the 4th one or start running differnt drivers.

Rob I think I have you beat..   I just picked up a 2nd old 70s  Icon type car to build as a new Lemons racer.  Its already at the welders getting a cage fitted, getting lowered and other custom fabricated features.
I figure with 2 cars I can run each car every other event and not have to be stressed out trying to get a broken car fixed for the next race , If I have one already sitting.

I'm trying to figure out how I can hide an enclosed trailer at work!  Just kidding, mostly.  Wife has been very supportive of my new obsession, and if they are not 8 hours away, will come out and support.  Have tried for years to get he in a car, just don't see it happening.  My son on the other hand has already started counting the days.  He will be 5 in january.

Re: I think I have a problem

Get her in a car for 5 minutes and you're in.....mine has tried FF2000 cars and now feels tin-tops are a step backward....after my experience at Reno this year I tell her that there's lots of speed and pucker factor available if you put your foot down! The fun of Lemons conceals the fact that this is real racing, but safe enough for family participation. Can you get helmet small enough for your 5 year old?

Re: I think I have a problem

our team had a driver fly up from florida (car#42 white 98 cvp1) he also half owns a SR3 does work on it turning wrenches an all and to my under standing.

our backup/sub team/whatever car24 (black with orange camo leaf stripes had a few out of towners one from mariland, one from oaklahoma, and then one from vegas but the vegas guy neve came to race due to car accident that uncovered an undiagnosed medical issue (thats the rumor i heard at least dunno if its true) plus they also had a guy from st louis, mo (non driver) so between our 2 team we had a spread crew sadly there is a lil bit of an sad under lying story with the buick but the huge arsed sh!t eatin grins from a few members from the crown vic #42 made up for some of it as some of them took up opportunity to take the buick for a spin as they racked a few penalties on the vic that kept from the track a bit (mostly simple infraction like pass under yellow or tires off)

I'm on the fence about canceling all autox activities to do more crapcan racing.  One set of Hoosiers = a crapcan race.  I usually buy three sets of Hoosiers, so theoretically I could almost double my crapcan schedule.  hmmmmm

I had a girlfriend ask me once 'which do you like better, racing or sex?'

My reply ...... 'I know which one lasts longer!!'

We broke up shortly after that. Oh well.

24 Hours seems like a perfect length of time to me!
