Topic: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

http://blog.caranddriver.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/01-Luxury-Cars-in-the-24-Hours-of-LeMons-626x426.jpg

We're still well below our quota for Chrysler luxury machinery, but GM, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Toyota, and Nissan statusmobiles are well represented in the series. Quick, start shopping for a '71 Newport!

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

I see Audi is missing from the German luxury field. If everything goes to plan, we'll have a big fat old Audi 200 for the race at Chuckwalla. 1" longer and wider than the E23 7-series!

Will keeping the factory chrome trim improve our chances at the BS table?

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

Huge cars with an enormous appetite for fuel, tires and brakes rule! Well, sort of. Or not. But fun anyway! Thanks for the nod on C&D Phil!

That Yellow Audi 5000ish/200 car with no trunk lid is fast as us on the straights... don't know much about the team though (I'm an Audi nut... kinda pondering running my wife's A4 now that she's had 3 accidents in a month and insurance paid it off)

"Don't mess with Lexas!" LS400. We survived another one! See website link for build details.
Maker of the "unofficial Lemons fish!" - If you ask nice, I'll likely give you one at the track.

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

We're proud to heed the call and bring 5 liters of furious Benz to Chuckwalla... Will even have the only proper number for one of these beasts, 140.

Yer Honor, I humbly submit my 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 9C1 for consideration (still mulling over themes).

How fun is that?  Today I was looking at Ebay/CL .  Key word = 383 & 440.  There is a ragtop in the area @ $1800 BIN..   Like I don't have enough issues in my life.

You mean its been done already? Well that's no fun. How did they do?

There's a few grumblings on the team that it won't turn. I told them it will, they don't believe me. It certainly outsizes the rest of our racing fleet!

Stinky Rat Trap racing, I think, is the team name.  They've been having mechanical issues this year.  But fast when it's running.  And sounds awesome!

According to timing and scoring, it's a 1991 Audi 200TQ with a fast lap at Autobahn of 1:55.069.  The race winners' fast lap was a 1:54.191.  But, with your fast lap being around 1:51, I think you are on the right 'track' with the fuel consumption part of the equation.

AWW Phil!!! You forgot about my favorite! The T-bird with the Lemons-o-matic onespeed transmission!

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

Makes sense that the Audi would lap so fast. I can't see the turbo from here but that is basically an RS2 motor- the 1991 200tq brings a little extra over almost any other 5 Cyilnder Audi put there. 20 valves FTW!

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

We pitted next to the Audi guys at Autobahn in October 2011.  I think they placed something like 7th that race.  Cool team, fast car.

Yeah, the T-bird was a luxury car back in '63. It should be in there. Thanks for the mentions though Phil. Excellent write-up!

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

The original idea with that post was to just do Cadillacs. Then I just had to mention the BonneDonk. After that, I went and looked at the German and Japanese cars. It's impossible to get all the cars until we put together the long-postponed Every Car That's Ever Raced In Lemons database.

An early 80s full-size caddie would be perfect.  Which would be the better IOE?  The old GM V8 Diesel, or V8-6-4?

I've seen V8-6-4 cars pop up from time to time, but none at the moment.

Losing in the Midwest since 2012 (seems like I've been a loser for longer than that, though).

Re: Why you should race a big fat luxury car

There's no way I could get everybody's luxury car in the article, and I didn't worry much about cars that I've covered the living shit out of (e.g., the Speedycop T-Bird, NSF 6.9) in the past.

This is true.  I'm just pulling your leg.  Thanks for what you do for all of us.

I got kicked out of the M-100 club so it's just as well.  They'll come burn my house down next.
