Quick tip-  Windshield washer fluid works great as paint prep.  Sprayed onto somewhat clean rag from DD windshield washer.  The car's been sitting out for over 3 years and the paint's holding up fine, except for the paint that burned off:(

Yum Yum, Jagermeister.

It's a Mini Cooper (Saloon) theme.  Mini is now owned by BMW, thus the British-German identity crisis :-)

British scones, German pretzels with mustard, and German chocolate cupcakes with English beer, Beefeater gin, German beer,  and Jagermeister...

No modern Mini Cooper would be caught dead without it's iconic body, bonnet, and boot vinyl ('er I mean duct tape) stripes.  And, it's just not a Mini without the vinyl ('er I mean duct tape) Union Jack on the roof.

We track tested a checkered roof, but the vinyl flooring tiles blew off at 30 mph :-)

Orange & black gloss rustoleum in quart cans.  Paint prep consisted of peeling off some of the old stickers, and wiping car down with windex & paper towel.
Masked off orange squares, rolled on with disposable foam rollers, let dry for a day.
Masked off black squares, rolled on paint, never really dried.

Werkd OK for us.

Rollered the bugs right in place. Rustoleum does dry in less than an hour on a 100+ degree day with low humidity (i.e. Oklahoma in July).

Still made the front page of Car & Driver's website for a few days (granted, it was a small pic). It's only got to look good from the grandstands. Next paint job I'm planning on doing some sanding and I'll probably thin the paint (2 parts paint, one part mineral spirits) before rolling it on.

We use the 3M "paint" that comes in 2" wide rolls.

Im about 15 mins west of Ohare and about 5 mins south of schaumburg. Looks like Elburn is about an hour west of me. I was hoping to have the car done in time for Gingerman but couldn't come up with enough drivers in time. We will definitely be at Autobahn though and if all goes well Road America. Im still hoping for a second Autobahn date but thats not looking good

Cool.  There are two teams (at least) operating out of Chicago, proper.  And a third one building in the city.  (Two of those teams are within three blocks of each other.)

There's another team in the northern suburbs, one in the southwestern suburbs, one in Aurora, one in Lisle... plus the Breadvan (northwest suburbs) and who knows how many others.

I have two coworkers building cars, as well.

I work in Lisle.
