Topic: C****Truck! A whole new level

You guys seen this?

A whole new level. The upside is you can tow your parts/tools to the track with your race truck.

saw that, laughed histerically, and forwarded it on, so others could get a chuckle too.

I could come up with a truck, but getting it home, to/from the track wouldnt be possible, and expensive.

Flat tow behind another tractor. But yes, its not going to be $500 cars with $2000 cages and JY parts.

CDL's, insurance, etc. I suppose those that are hardcore owner/operators would be able to do it without too much sweat, but its not something for the average racer to do.

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

It looks like chump is trying to spread out into everything.  Not sure how well most of these will work in reality for them, but it is in partnership with another company that is already invested in Truck competition so they may do the bulk of the work for the series.  May also be based around truck shows so figuring the guys who go to truck shows would the ones who would run it.

They also started doing Ice-racing, which is cool and would better fit for the $500 race car, but most areas you can race have established Ice Racing Series so not sure how well that will work out either.

My concern would be that they are going to try to do to much and start dropping the ball on their existing series.

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

with the minimum weight of 10,000lbs you could get away with towing it with an F350 without a CDL, but it's certainly on the edge.

your best bet would be to live somewhere that allows you to re-title it as a regular truck. around here you can do that if you remove the 5th wheel. but they want you to keep the 5th wheel on there. at worse you bring it with you and install it at the track.

the other concerning thing is the brakes. rules say stock brakes only but they don't say that water sprayers to keep em cool is illegal.

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

Lemons should expand into $500 endurance off-road rallying asap. Just sayin'.

oh, hell yeah!

with a 10,000lb weight it should be no big deal to carry 100gal of water, heck just use one of the old saddle tanks to carry it to save on brakes. you could use a simple thermostatic switch in the air path of the brakes to open a solenoid to cool the brakes.

this could be stupid amounts of fun!

Someone tried to organize a crapcan stage rally in the Pacific NW but he didn't get enough entries for a first event. Haven't heard much about it since but hope it happens someday.

I find it funny that the truck rulebook is ONLY 40 pages.

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

5000 truck, 10000 in mods.  I can think of many other less expensive forms of racing.  Then 4.00+ for diesel at maybe 1 gallon per lap.

I guess it's cheap for semi truck racing, but not on my racing budget.

you really can get these trucks for 2-4k and they really limit the mods you can do down to just about nothing. i suspect you could build something to these rules for about 6-7k if you were trying to be thrifty.

and they are running 50mile sprints, 6 in a weekend to not overheat brakes. so even at 2mpg you're still only looking at $600 worth of fuel.

i hope they succeed because we need more amateur level racing series. but it isn't going to be everyone's thing.

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

This is more dangerous than Lemons, with a bit of tuning, they'll hit 100mph+ with a full trailer, run them empty? We're talking 100 on a moderate straight, in a 10k truck!

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

At first I thought this announcement was just the annual lame chumpy april fools "prank" but they're a bit early.

Erik T (Free Range Racing MR2) started framing up a series around this idea but I don't think he was able to get any events off the ground. I imagine it is a huge PITA to get organized and anywhere close to enough entries to make it worth it.

Living in SoCal, we're really lucky with the huge desert racing crowd already all setup. Why invent some niche small-travel dusty parking lot series when there's already a nearly low-buck series out there?

http://jeepspeed.com/race-with-jeepspeed.aspx

I've been having dangerous thoughts about this lately, might have to head out to watch an event and see how it smells. This looks pretty sweet:

I've been half-assed considering a Jeepspeed effort for years.  You know, because road-racing isn't eating enough of my income and life.

Re: C****Truck! A whole new level

yeah, i was on the pirate 4x4 forum when jeepspeed got started and i admit, it's got everything going for it except the location. but i suppose there isn't much in the way of desert to play in over in the mid-west.

wouldn't that take about 20  gear changes?  I  wonder how long it takes to change the gearbox  in a 30  year old Freightliner.   They are owned by  Mercedes Benz...
