Topic: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

Our team is "thick" to say the least.  I need a seat into which I can pour a 40" waist.  (they say 38, but they are lying).  I'd like to get a racing seat for safety plus I'd like to sell the stock seats so I can afford to buy a sweet intake or maybe an ebay header.  What are you other big guy teams using?

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

I've got a used (ie. dont have all the specs on it) Cobra seat we got from a local racer.  I have one of those 38 goin on 40 waistlines and need a shoehorn to get in it but once Im in it holds me in place well and is comfortable.

Best thing you can do is just try some on for size.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

I'm a fat guy(bigger than you in the hips at least)and I got an 18" Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seat. worked great! you might even be able to get away with a 17" model without too much difficulty.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

I run a Sparco Evo 2.  I'm a 42w.  It's snug but I fit and it's not horribily bad for hour+ stints.  The jockies on the team swim in it a little but I'm the guy cinching their belts so they don't move a lot after that.

We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

I'm starting to wonder how many "Fat Stigs" we got in Lemons. I usually reserve that title for myself, but seeing others in the same bracket either makes me feel anonymous or having kindred spirits around. not sure which to think.

BTW, the 18"Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seat fits me like a glove and im usually wearing 44s, if that tells you anything.

the 18" Butlerbuilt is very nice too. My cagebuilder highly recommending a full shell over a tube-frame seat, and seeing he builds sprint cars I took his word on it.

Sparco's are damn expensive from what I've seen. never sat in one so i couldn't tell you if it was worth it. Everyone who I've read here that has one loves them though.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

I have a Sparco EVO2L in my race car and my teamates can't fit in it.   I might check out the Kirkey 17" because I want something much less pricey than a Sparco.  The other problem is that our new team member is a skinny dude.  I told him to start eatin'

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

We bought this seat http://www.soloperformance.com/Ultrashi … _1366.html from those guys in an 18 inch and we have two drivers with 44 inch waists who fit just fine... the guy with the 28 inch waist is getting fitted for a custom sumo driving suit.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

We have a pretty good range of driver sizes on our teams. A couple of short guys, a couple of really tall guys, and a couple of husky guys. We use a 17" Kirkey intermediate road race seat and it works great for everybody. FWIW, I'm pretty broad-shouldered and a 42" waist and it works for me just fine. Cheers.

Thanks big guys smile  I think I'll pick up a 17" Kirkey.  We'll lube it up if the team gets any bigger.

we run and evo XL (same as a evo 2) its a little loose on the smaller drivers but the fatties can fit so it ups our available team members.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

I've got a wide Cobra race bucket (tubular steel frame) that I feel less than snug in (swim around a bit) that I'd gladly trade for a narrower/standard Sparco or similar seat. I'm in north San Diego county-- not sure where you are or if someone local wants to swap.

Good point!  Although on a recent Mythbusters (http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbus … lightning/), peanut oil seems like the most serious threat.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

The Corbeau Forza II/Wide is a great choice as well. We've been using it for a season with some big guys.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

As a official Fat Guy i have taken a Kirkey 18 inch and split it down the center and added two inches and tig welded it back together with very beefy reinforcement to fit me just fine but in the Jag we run a Cobra Misano with a seat back support because it is reclinable. For west coast guys i would say i am the biggest boy at 300+ and 6.4 tall but i have not been to all the races out here.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

Kirkey has a "big boy seat" 21" wide, that's what I'm using, we'll be making inserts for the rest of the team as they are all smaller than I.  Yes, it's embarrassing, I'm big, I wear a 64 waist. I'm trying to lose it, that's all that needs said.

The Corbeau Forza Wide works well enough, budget and stiff, one piece tubular frame.

PRP is a great company and makes a very high quality product.  A large portion of the off-road community uses them as replacements for stock seats for trail riding or competition, but I don't know how well suited (or legal) they'd be for Lemons (or road racing in general).

My beard has been in my car 6 races and the zebra jag is running one too here in Ca.
These seats are a 1"tube frame  definately don't need a seat brace .My buddy rolled his truck at 100mph end over end adn the seats were the only thing salvagable.
We used to run a beard that had a bottom cushion you could take out for different drivers height and if they pissed in it .
My buddy has the hunsaker and he is really happy .
Prp and Beard will custom make a seat for height and width .

Good to know about the Beard seats.

My comments were more directed at the PRPs, which are aimed completely at the off-road segment.  My only concern is because the safety standards I've had to build my Lemons Cherokee to are SO much more stringent than even the most wild off-road (save high-speed desert stuff) sanctioning bodies I've ever seen.  Like I said, I believe PRP makes a fantastic product, but short of a full custom seat, I didn't know they did road racey stuff.

Re: seat for a "big boned" Lemons team

Beards and the Prp are pretty close to comparison in construction .I think that a seat designed to be in a truck or buggy that when it rolls instead ofroadcourse of if you  roll .Ever watch a CORR race they roll all the time and 90% of these cars run these style seats .

We could go on this forever !!
I was just telling this big Guy like me that these seats a strong ,custom fit if wanted ,and comfortable.I've build a bunch of cages for guys with those Kirkey seats and the are so uncomfortable .I couldn' imagine being in that for 2-3 hours.

So your the crazy guy running a cherokee !!!!  There was one at an early days AMP race and that thing was the biggest moving roadblockand I think it blew up .

See you Friday I'll be there with the 4 car hauler can't miss me !
