Topic: Crapcan Play List

Ok, so now that we have a truck that I can hear the radio in when we're towing, I want a roadtrip playlist for my iThingy.  Must be car related (theme, title, something relatable)   Post up a youtube link if you can.  I need something to keep me busy while toddling up and down the interstates!

Re: Crapcan Play List

Got to have Clutch's "Spacegrass."

Lightnin' Hopkins' "Black Cadillac" is another good driving song.

Pere Ubu's "Dark" is a good AM-radio-in-your-hooptie-at-4:00-AM song.

Soul Coughing's "Screenwriter's Blues" feels like being awake on the 405 for 27 hours straight.

Atomic Bitchwax's "Last of the V8 Interceptors" doesn't have any (decipherable) car-themed lyrics, but the title should be enough.

We've all heard ZZ Top's "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide 47 billion times, but it remains one of the greatest car-themed songs ever.

Speaking of overplayed Baby Boomer rock, Led Zeppelin's "Trampled Under Foot" is a good car song.

You can't go wrong with Jello Biafra and the Melvins' anti-SUV anthem.

There's endless early-60s surf rock with drag-racing themes, e.g. "427 Super Stock."

And, of course, there's "Ulcer Breakout" by my favorite band, the Butthole Surfers.

Re: Crapcan Play List

Also, there's a Violent Femmes song called something like "Give me the Keys".

Also: Warren Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" which always seems appropriate whenever I get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.

Pretty much Beck's whole album, "Sea Change".  But, in particular, "Guess I'm Doing Fine" just seems to go well for a car ride with the windows down.  Ideally as the sun is setting.

"Radar Love" seems to fit my mood when I'm en route to a track. Plus, it was featured in a good car commercial.

Re: Crapcan Play List

While the song is actually about something else all together, the lyrics fit. Also applicable to long drives.
From the greatest of all Motorhead albums;

Actually, this entire album makes FANTASTIC driving music. I used to listen to it cruising around Tehachapi in my Mom's 77 Datsun Pickup before I was old enough to have my license.

Flirtin' With Disaster -- Molly Hatchet. I can't hear this without immediately thinking NASCAR on the Playstation.

Highway Star -- Deep Purple

Born to be Wild -- Steppenwolf

Barracuda -- Heart.

Crosstown Traffic -- Hendrix. This one pops in my head anytime I'm in a cluster-f of traffic in a race.

Mustang Sally -- Wilson Pickett

Cars -- Gary Numan

Hot Rod Lincoln -- Commander Cody et al.

Vehicle -- Ides of March

Thousand Dollar Car -- The Bottle Rockets

And my favorite of all of them:

Radar Gun -- The Bottle Rockets

Radar gun, radar gun.

With my brand new radar gun

etc. Awesome. How it wasn't a big rock hit is beyond me.

Re: Crapcan Play List

When we first raced the Turbo Schnitzel the radio/CD player still worked.  This is the playlist I made for it:

Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar
Presidents of the USA - My Mach 5
Rammstein - Du Hast
311 - Don't Stay Home
Danzig - Mother
Frank Sinatra - Fly Me To The Moon
Lemonheads - Rabbit
Lemonheads - Skulls
Magnapop - Garden
Quiet Riot - Cum On Feel The Noise
Wagner - Walkürenritt or Ritt der Walküren (Ride of the Valkyries)
The Crystal Method - Busy
Metallica - Seek and Destroy
Metallica - Orion
Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Powermad - Slaughterhouse

Absolutely the best song to have come on while racing was "Fly Me To The Moon".

Re: Crapcan Play List

Why not just get a CD full of the goofy songs Click-n-Clack the Tappet Brothers play at the close of their shows?

For example, Stairway to Heapdom - http://shop.npr.org/programs/car-talk-s … to-heapdom

Very Lemony in spirit and execution. wink

Car Talk wrote:

Still More Disrespectful Car Songs

Folks just can’t get enough of great, catchy songs that treat cars like... well, like Car Talk treats cars!  With the appropriate derision and, at the very least, a lack of respect.  So here we present our third volume of sing-a-long, Car Talk-approved car music.

You'll hear new favorites:  “Beep, Beep, Beep” (sung to the tune of Moonlight Sonata), “90-Pound Suburban Housewife Drivin' in her SUV,” and 15 more that we fell in love with.  There's even one tune that features the semi-melodic voices of a certain pair of radio hosts -- but we promise, only one song!

Unlike the Beach Boys and the Ripchords, these songs aren't singing praises to American Iron -- rather, they’re disrespectful, and sometimes even contemptuous. Just the way we like it.
