Topic: Super K DC to FL to CA to Texas - September Madness

The plan: Alex of Sputnik & Speedcop fame to drive the Super K from DC back to Super K's starting point, NSFRIHQ, in beautiful Cocoa, FL.  Then he and I will attempt a cross country drive to the race at Thunderhill next weekend.  From DC to WIllows, CA via FL... 3,880 miles and 54 hours of drive time.

Eff'n idiots, we are.

If it makes it that far and is still moderately road-worthy, I'll be driving it to Houston and catching a plane back to FL to prep for the CMP race.

Alex left DC around 10:30 am Saturday, lost a wheel bearing at the VA/NC border, made some repairs (I think he roller-bladed a few miles on I-95 to a parts store).  He's currently entering GA and is about 3.5 hrs from Jacksonville, FL where he'll stay for the evening.

That's it for now.

I'm honestly not sure if you're kidding about the i-95 rollover blading element, but that's a funny thought.

This is nothing short of epic, Doug. Bon chance.

Maybe all the future K-driving teams should chip in to buy a cheap Yamahopper to throw in the back, for parts runs. Rollerblades are pretty slow if you need to do 30 miles in Utah.

Is the massive CD collection still with the car? I'll make a new disc to commemorate the '13 Vodden the Hell Are We Doing.

What, no Super Cub? I think I want the reliability of Honda's best idea for backup under such desperate circumstances. I kept mine in the back of the 300TD, I think it will probably go in the K too...

I know it's been a long time since I had the K-car but there were so many spare bits that went with the car there was nowhere to put anything in there. I'm still thinking that little pull behind trailer is the way to go.

The Yamahopper is a lot smaller, lighter, and cheaper than the Super Cub, hence better for the Super K.

I'll have axles for both sides with me on Friday, I think.

Might want to buy another set for good luck -

Poor Super K.  Seems the clutch is starting to fail.  Maybe they can last the day and change it overnight.

Well, at least they can change the clutch while they're swapping the engine...

not for the K, did 3 or 4 races on the same motor, while driving back and forth across the country.

Re: Super K DC to FL to CA to Texas - September Madness

I'm going to speculate wildly that this not-completely-unforeseen development may impair the K's appearance at MSR-H in 2 weeks. But I hope not.

Na,  they pulled that motor from a reputable pick n pull.  Its like a brand new engine.  Doug is going to tow it back to Houston in his $500 truck.  There's no fail in this plan.
