Topic: The Bella - A Portuguese Sports Coupe (movie trivia)

http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/2244 … iler-.html

Okay, at about 1:30 of the trailer at the link above there is a pretty good shot of the Bella, a supposed Portuguese sports car that Jerry Lewis has convinced Bernard Cribbins to sell at his service station. But what is it really? I've googled around and the internet doesn't seem to know. Best image I can find just has them in the back ground.

And here's a Lemons little diddy by Bernard from the early 60s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5XX9LX2es4

Can't see the pic or video clip here at work.  But the Internet Movie Car Database only mentions a Jaguar E-Type driven by a main character.  Red.

If I didn't recognize a Jaguar E-type I would turn in my man card and resign from the gearhead brotherhood to live among the monks in Tibet

Yeah, I just got a chance to watch it.  The E-Type is only visible from the belt line up, so you could have been excused for that.  But the car you mentioned looks like some sort of modified Sprite.

The cars can clearly be seen in the video at the link in the first post. Just skip ahead to about 1:30

They look horrible, and could almost just be a fiberglass mock-up made for the movie.  Unless they actually drove in the movie, but I've never seen it.

If I'm not mistaken, those are Bond Mark F's which have been modified to have two wheels in the front instead of one. Interesting trivia... On Bonds, because they were front wheel drive and only had one front wheel, the engine was attached directly to the wheel. Thus, when you turned the wheel, you were turning the engine too.

Re: The Bella - A Portuguese Sports Coupe (movie trivia)

I do believe you are correct sir. They were bond Mark Fs with some sort of 4 wheel conversion. That is very strange seeing as how the Bond was front wheel drive, but it could be that the cars pictured didn't really drive, and the the one car that is driven in the movie may actually have 3 wheels in the front. 1 that actually drives it, and 2 that just steer.
