Topic: European cars in 7 of the top 10 positions at Thunderhill

Off the top of my head, I don't think we've ever seen such European domination of a Lemons race before. Four BMWs, a Porsche, a Volkswagen, and an Alfa in the Top Ten!

You know what that means? Yes, you all need to push your RX-7s and Mustangs off the nearest cliff and buy Lancia Zagatos and Borgward Isabellas!

Re: European cars in 7 of the top 10 positions at Thunderhill

Will somebody please bring a Citroen DS?

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

Re: European cars in 7 of the top 10 positions at Thunderhill

I think they had us by sheer numbers. I came out of turn 15 sometime in the last hour and had to pass FOUR E30s at the same time.

Spread yourselves out a little, it's less conspicuous!

I will bring my DS to the  Florida race in Dec of 2010. Not to race but to drive around.

There is no way to get a DS below the $500 mark. The suspension spheres alone are $500. Plus the DS could never take a hit. The rear fenders are only held on by one bolt and 2 hinged pins. With the contact that happens out there it would be dropping body panels left and right.
And last of all he parts are so hard to find that if anything broke it be a 3 week wait to order the part from the UK. or France.

Jonny,  Id love to run one on the track. with the hydraulic suspension the body lean would be really bad but you wouldnt feel any bumps. They are great cars but in my mind to valuable to risk getting smashed up.

Once Dad is done putting the good engine from the totaled DS at the shop into his daily driver I am going to poke and prod him to let me turn the award winning ass-less wonder into a Lemons racer for one of the CA races.  The chassis is just a little more oval than before and the door overlap can be overlooked.  Installing a cage will be easy with the removable fiberglass top.  I think though I am smart enough to let John Pagel build it though since I don't trust my welding skills for that important of an element of the car.  Dying is hazardous to my health.

Even though this is a free car (traded a paint job on a Land Rover Series II) in CA it is very possible to get a DS going for under $500.  The hydraulics and other bits aren't so scary, just take it one piece at a time and sell off the rest of the interior and trim bits.  Euros go nuts for clean rust free CA parts.  Now if you are in some other DS scarce part of the country well then your efforts will be slightly more complicated.

At the very least we will be at the Concours with one so that we can flog it during the proposed parade laps (or pace car services, wink wink, or some form of parade penalty around the pits, make all the bad German and Japanese line up behind the slow moving French boat).  Maybe some added persuasion from the judges to my Dad's email box will help make it happen.

Dude, quit stealing my idea! My old Ford is actually set up for the track, so I was hoping to sandbag in the parade laps to get some distance inbetween my car and the one in front of me and have some fun.

Someone also said that about a 2005 Mini...

Re: European cars in 7 of the top 10 positions at Thunderhill

yea  and I recall the 05 mini getting some penalty laps.

vwminispeedster.  I would love to see some one out there in a DS. I even have a CS parts car here with a smashed left side. But to have to do an engine swap. or figure out a way to do a coil over suspension is not worth my time.
I would rather spend it on getting the M3 engine in my 318ti. Or getting my Baur 323 Alpina restoration completed.

I am getting a chopped 69 beetle ready for next years Lemons season. So I am trying to think a little out side the box and leave the E30 home for a season.
