Cross-Country drive w/ overnight in ElPaso. Safe-ish Parking?

A good friend is driving cross-country and will be kind enough to haul some stuff (rollcage amongst other things) and he's wanting to empty his truck bed into his hotel rom to keep things safe. I don't want him to have to do that. Can anyone recommend a decent area or hotel known to have secure parking in El Paso area? I was thinking Las Cruces might be a better overnight stop, but that's the general area (9hrs from San Diego) he'd like to stop for the night. Military is covering his hotel costs, btw.
