Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

Our 4.9 eldo has finished both races we've entered...reno and thill...and I bet it will make another, it not a northstar though.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

The rad seal is fine if it's coolant going in....but I'll bet most failures are combustion pressure blowing outward..

I want to see an E30 with a Slant Six. Please, someone, give us a reason to love E30s again!

I have my eye on a Valiant...

I'll take a picture.

Valiant with a BMW M20 would be fine, too.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

Why are none of you thinking Dacia 1100S?

For reals...

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

Severe lack of tire shredding capability. If you're going to go through the trouble of an engine swap, it should be able to perform some incredible feat. That's why I like the big Cad, it has enough torque to yank out redwood stumps.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

For this race, there are only two "incredible feats" that really make sense for an engine swap. One, reliability increase (e.g., Ford 302 in Volvo 240) or Two, general awesomeness enhancement (e.g., GM Quad Four in Honda CRX). Of course, tire-shredding power can be awesome, as in the case of a Cadillac 429/472/500 installed in a non-Cadillac.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

I would like to see a Morris Marina, complete with piano bolted to the roof.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

I don't EVER want to see another Morris Marina if I can help it.    That vehicle truly was the final gong of the decline of the British Empire.      Let's see, horrible eningeering, atrocious road maners, indifferent build quality, total lack of reliability or economy, whats not to love.  It the ulitmate Lemons vehicle. Hell they were Lemons when they were new too!

Remember, it's never too early to start embellishing the past.

"so there I was, 90mph, sideways on the brink of death ..."

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

I've been wanting to run a Grumman LLV for a while now... but a) they're rarely for sale and b) if they are, they are nowhere near $500.

Why has nobody obtained an Olds Silhouette, Pontiac Trans Sport, or Chevy Lumina APV and made a Dustbuster out of it? Easy, yet awesome theme, but we still haven't seen it.

Well, perhaps not THE final gong, as it was followed by A British Car to Beat the World:

<pedant mode>

The Metro was supposed to replace the Mini !

While the Marina was replace by the ITAL, which was a re-badged, slightly modified Marina.

</pedant mode>

The Metro would be almost too easy, basically it is a Mini with a larger engine bay (less crowded), better cooling (bah humbug) and even a more spacious interior.

I have never seen a Marina on this side of the pond, so I may struggle to find one, but if I do.......

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

Is there any love out there for a Pontiac Aztec? May still be a little pricey but they sure are ugly. Seems like a good contender for Index of Effluency.

Yea, the engine and tranny are the same as the minis of the same era (998 and 1275 A+ w/ rod change transmissions). The 1275s got better cams and heads as standard before the run-of-the-mill minis did... AND they had a 1275 turbo version (well, so did the mini as a special edition ERA turbo). turbocharged from factory units put out a claimed 100hp. It'll be tough to find one in the Lemons budget already landed in the US. I know of a couple, but too pricey to reclaim and get in close to budget.

On a lark I did a search and came up with this:

I'd do it if I was on the right coast.

$1900 to do a head gasket on a GM pushrod V-6???? Either his mechanic's kid needs braces, or it needs more than a head gasket!!!

Enjoy every sandwich.

Or, in traditional GM fashion, the engine is so inaccessible that it requires disassembly of the vehicle down to sub-molecular level in order to get to the head gasket.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

dont fear Phill im trying to work out when i can begin a Twin engine beast for you...

'85-86 hond civic hatch or CRX or '87-88 Legend with Two 2.7L v6s, front front one rear. 320hp 12cylinder AWD 2900lbs Japanese goodness!!  just imagine, and for the added difficulty use maual trannys, OOH or better yet one manual and on auto!

im thinking usuing a legend, not only a much sexier looking car, ( my family had one for 10 years which i loved but beat 300K into it betfore i could own it at which point the expensive emmission parts were failing thus totaling it) plus it already has on of those engine installed.
we could also build a steering wheel within a wheel for the on demand 4 weheels steering! its not drifitng! its Crabing! oh the levels of awesomeness whould be hard to match!

has anybody put a sho motor in a mustang? just asking...

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

I keep on thinking about doing a slant 6 A-Body but just too cheap to build a new car when the Size Matters Fury just keeps on going.

On the problem with our 360 it wasn't the motors fault.  We flipped a brand new belt (last time I use a new belt instead of the 40 year old used one we had) and siezed the water pump and it overheated.  Blew the head gasket.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* Cars That You Want To 'LeMonize' thread

I'm not playing yet, but kicking around putting together either a water cooled vw powered 914 or a mid engined rabbit for denver next year.  Either are possible, in budget, just gotta be patient if I wanna think about the 914.

How many penalty laps to you get for bringing a chassis that actually won LeMans?
