For instance, if someone were to enter something from the 1960's, very breakable, box stock, and bog slow? Like an air-cooled Beetle, a 2CV, a Dauphine, or a Simca? I was just wondering? Bonus laps might even out the field a bit and give the Hillman Minx more of a fighting chance against the Mustangs and the Maximas.
that's why they have good, bad and ugly classes.
plus if you enter any of those you are really going for the Index award which is filled with similar hopeless causes. Plus you get a $1 more in nickels than the overall winner.

that sucks......I think the judges should be able to award bonus laps.....BUT only to a car that is nearly 100% likely to not finish....or even start the race really....and there are plenty at every race....
it's california. the whining will happen regardless; only the "reason" behind it changes.
Instead of giving bonus laps, we treat the teams with truly effluent cars like the heroes they are.
Yea it was the Sterling Moss BMW 2002. and they ended up in 7th place because of the extra laps
I think it was a great idea. It gives the old under 100 HP cars a chance to finish in the top 10. I think if you show up with a pre 70s car with the original engine and brakes you should get at least 20 laps.. It would level the playing field against the Rx7s and E30s. V8 cars - Miatas..

I feel we take this a step further by entering team full of effluent mechanics and drivers.

i believe it was the margin of victory for the '08 race that was more the issue than Hurling Moss' 7th place finish. I shall say no more.

It pays in me getting a sponsor for tires for the next race.
It pays in getting the drivers to put in extra time on the car for the next race to get the car more competitive so that maybe we can win.
It pays when you want to publish an article in a magazine , You have a better chance with a 7th place finish rather than 59th.
I agree I am not getting the $1500, but there are other benefits.
