Be careful.....lambo doors (while very cool) are NOT very safe in case of a rollover...which is quite common at Lemons....be sure to read da safety rules 1st.....it would suck to build a killer car to get rejected in tech

They are pretty much just going to be the door skins. The car is going to have a full set of door bars in it. We are planning on using the stock door latch also so as long as the door stays latched, should it flip, it shouldn't be able to come open. If they give us too much trouble in tech we can always just weld the door on!
Doors aren't required.
Loose those bumpers. I can give you a couple of '72 bumpers. Also, I ran a pinto many years circle tracking and can give you some suspension tips if you like.
I have some early 80's/late 70's aluminum bumpers that i can put on it. those little 72 bumpers would be even better though. Where are you located? I also ran mini stocks for a few years before moving up to sprints but im sure i don't know it all. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated. Racer Walsh is my friend for this build. Today i started the diet for the car. There is alot of weight to be removed. Since its going to be a dog, every little bit of weight i can pull out will help my cause... Since i got the car for free, $300 on the suspension still leaves me a little room for other upgrades. Shoot me a pm.
I would NOT remove the 5-mph bumpers. Yes, they are heavy and ugly, but they will protect the car much better than the small bumpers. Contact isn't supposed to occur, but it does happen and without protection, your race could end very early from a relatively minor hit.
I'd like to hear about suspension improvements for Pintos. I'm planning to prep a Pinto too.
Hey Wingin it, would you forward my email to Troy's email? thanx
What a beauty...
The e-mail just got forwarded..... Troy visit http://www.racerwalsh.zoovy.com/ They have coil springs for $50 at rates from 600 to 1000. They also have a FREE catalog!
I also think keeping bumpers is a good idea.. our estate has massive (think heavy) hydraulic bumpers under the plastic outer skin.....front and rear is well over 100lbs...but we left them in just in case....
Got the diet completed today. Now for the fun part of the build, the cage.
Wow, your poor Pinto is trying to return to the ore it started as. That makes Troy's Z look like a restoration candidate.
Knowing this things is going to be dog slow, every bit of weight i can get out of it will help my cause. Plus with all that crap out of my way i have an open canvas to do whatever i want with the cage.
Here's some updated pics. Still have to put the driver door bars in and the seat bar. Waiting on the seat for that though.
Now that we have the most important thing done, the lambo door, we can start on the stuff that doesn't matter like the engine and suspension.
wow very nice work, what kind of motor are you putting in? a V8??
No we are being lame for this one and sticking with the stock 2.3. We put a very unreliable ford V8 in our e30 so it would be nice to have one of our vehicles that has a shot at finishing a race.
A light car, reliable motor and that big fuel cell - this car can fo quite well. How many gallons is the cell, 24? I bet you'll do real well. If thr car stays togther the entire race.
It is only a 22 gal. So far i have not found a 24 gallon cell. The only make 22 and 25 gallon cells.
Hummm..22 gallons, 4 banger, you might get by with one driver change a day? Possible? At 15 mpg that is over 325 miles per tank, that is over 80mph average for four straight hours, seems possible to me. There are few tracks that a Lemons car can average 80mph, so even if you get say 12mpg you can still probably get by with one driver change a day.
I'd like to see that happen ( 12 hours w/o a driver change). They'd be
all over the track by the 6th hour due to delusions etc.........................

Absolutely! We are not planning anything like that. A pinto is very hard to get balanced due to the fact the back of the car is pretty much at the rear axle. Im using the fuel more for ballast than anything else.
