Re: October Joliet Race - Who's coming?

I'll be there overnights too.  I'll drink everyone else's beer.

Fireball Racing - ‘67 Ford Fairlane and ‘73 Saab Sonett

I've lost a lot, but the Fairlane finally won an IoE.

I'll be bringing a nice selection of craft beers.  See y'all there!

Brett is one of my oldest Lemons friends.  When the team I volunteered to crew for abandoned Gingerman on Friday night for hotel because of the (alledgedly) 18 degree temperature, he tSoG and I drank beer in a camper, bled his brakes the next morning and mutually commented on how hopeless the team I was helping was at both driving and car prep (they are better drivers now).

I think it is three years later now and Apocalyptic is still one of the teams I would do about anything for.  Oh, and lots of fun to hang out with in the paddock when their car is not in pieces...actually, even when their car is in pieces.

Edit: Bonus, assuming Andrew if coming he is a MASTER welder and fabricator that also brings really good homebrew.  Double Bonus, his sister (or was it cousin?) that often comes with is adorable.

it's a great track and a great facility, but it's not a great place to camp or keep a pit going without a lot of pricy secondary gear.

Really?  You do not need a generator or electricity.  Nice to have but outside of charging batteries and filling the compressor, not a need to have.  The noisy, cheap compressors running all night are the biggest annoyance but that is relatively minor.

Plenty of grass.  Show up early an it is on the fence.  Show up late and it is around the roundabout.  I prefer the asphalt but since we try to block out space for 3-4 teams we take what we can get.

Every place has has compromises but in this case the excellent bathrooms and showers make up for a lot.

I'm assuming after this thread Andrew's sister or cousing Beth is never going to be allowed to come to a race again.  While Lemons is Good People, we are a bunch of idiots that you shouldn't let try to date your adorable relatives(well unless you don't like them)

I'm pretty sure no one was implying romantic entanglements.  It's just nice to have someone NOT an idiot around that get's us and laughs at our stupid jokes and tolerates the rest of our behavior.  Beth is but one...there are a handful of others....but not many.  Mainly, you are armpit deep in the craziness or you are laughing politely at it until you can make your escape.

Re: October Joliet Race - Who's coming?

Yes, tSoG is correct. Beth is indeed Andrew's sister. She was once asked if she was his girlfriend at a race because she doesn't look too much like him.

If you want to spot Beth at a race, she is often roaming around on a bicycle in the paddocks. However, she is aware that riding while intoxicated in the middle of the night can end badly. As for the idiots part, Beth has a certain affinity with idiots. She is sometimes called crazy herself because she rides her bike for very long distances. In fact, she missed the last race at Joliet because she was riding a 24-hour bike race in Milwaukee called the Riverwest 24. She has been informed by Andrew that the "24" part should come before the race location part.

I am very sad at myself for missing the pun.  I'm not racing this race but if your going to go there I am available to work as a bacon assistant.

You might not but if she is holding bacon Wally might try to charm her.  Of course he probably will try and charm anyone with bacon.

Re: October Joliet Race - Who's coming?

Well I think its official the Mirada will be coming to Joliet.  couldn't find drivers for the 24 hour race but we are good for drivers on this one.  now if the trans will hold together for a couple of hours is the next question.  it didn't like shifting into 3rd at gingerman in the spring.  well it would go into third just not put power down till it was good and ready to.  see ya there!

Any other big Mopars coming?

Team Sheen Integra and Mirada.

Re: October Joliet Race - Who's coming?

We got the engine back in the RWD Golf last night...almost 3 weeks before the race, not too bad!

After we blew a CV, the transmission, and the headgasket at the same time at the 24, lots of new parts to install and shake out in the next few weeks, but we're looking alright.

Also, the teammate that usually hauls the car and all the tools to the race isn't going to this one, so we'll be traveling light.  (IE:  Forgetting lots of things)

Paddock near me, if you like.  I bring an enclosed trailer full  of crap (hoist, tools, misc unidentified hoses, welder, hopefully a press and we'll have a generator too).

I usually park near Apocalyptic racing and The Wonderment Consortium (or maybe they park near me).  I try to park by the tech shed.  I'm the purple Escort, #421.

I'll be there when the gates open on Thursday.

since we will have three trailers, and RV and lord knows what else, we will try to reserved enough for you and the other Saturn Team (Product Design) Thursday either next to or across from the above mentioned band of usual suspects.  This way you can point and laugh at my foolishness of trying to run two cars when.
