Topic: Megasquirt

Just wondering if anybody else has had experience running it.  Im still getting used to the system and have been having a bit of trouble with the tip in enrichment, I was wondering if somebody had any tips for that.

The problem is the TPS has a little noise to it(varies about .05v) and it keeps causing the "change over time" graph to spike and thus dump fuel.

Re: Megasquirt

Maybe a damping capacitor on the output?

Good idea, ill try it!

Re: Megasquirt

There is a Datsun guy who is on the Mr. Hankey 280Z Lemons team that has a ton of MS experience.  He doesn't hang out here, but you can find him at www.hybridz.org Search for "Tony D".  I will also try to have him contact you.

Re: Megasquirt

I remember reading through the setup manual one time and it seems to me that there's a setting that you can alter to average out the readings more. That might be one way to compensate for a flaky sensor. But wouldn't it maybe be easier to just put in a new TPS? Or do they all vary that much on your car?

BTW, you won't find many folks running MS around here, since a full MS is pretty much worth about as much or more than the entire car is allowed to value in this series. Unless you got a killer deal on both the MS and the car. Cheers.

The cost of an MS system is WAY more than our entire budget....while a great idea and a far better system than just about any stock FI system....its the $$$$ obstacle thats hard to get past

I bought my setup for $200 assembled from a guy who gave up. It can be done...

*disclaimer* I will be using it on my 69 mustang streetcar, not Lemons.

Re: Megasquirt

I traded an old used viseo 32" LCD for my setup.  $279 brand spankin new and I had been using it for a year so I figured its worth about half.  Thats what I always sell anything used in good shape for anyhoo.

Im racing a caravan so spending money on suspension, however critical, just wasn't possible.  On account of the fact that there is nothing even for sale lol.  The van was free because it had been abandoned at my work after a rather nasty engine fire.    So I figured I could play a little with the powertrain.  Besides after what I did, I needed an aftermarket ECU!

Re: Megasquirt

There was one Volvo at Altamont '07 that was running a Megasquirt setup. As I recall, something non-fuel-related killed the car early on, so not a good test.

The cool thing about Megasquirt is that it can control up to, what, 32 injectors? 16? Whatever it is, that means one important thing to Lemons racers: 16 tiny throttle bodies on your V8!

Re: Megasquirt

I built one (B & G kit) for about 120 bucks...if you can solder, it's easy and cheap.... definitely get the stimulator board kit for bench testing. Getting it to work with Range Rover FI on my TR-8? God only knows...

That was my volvo. I had this spooky feeling as I chomped through the stock wiring harness at the ECU connector that it was a bad idea. The conversion was about 95% awesome. At first. But I'm more of a nuts and bolts kind of guy and must have let the smoke out of a couple of key components.

I still have that old ECU. I'll let it go to someone here, cheap. Real cheap. wink

Small world. Johnny Mag (Magnusracing) who i race with is the guy who actually started turbobricks when he was in college. I have no idea why we have not built one for Lemons yet. but there is always 2011/12/13/14/15 and so on...
