Topic: Who pays for bent Armco?

Not that I plan on bending any railings, but... My understanding is that at Autobahn (Chicago) and probably at other tracks, during HPDE days if you screw up and hit the wall, the driver is responsible for paying for the damage.  Does the same thing apply during a race?  Is the race team responsible for damage to the track barriers as a result of an accident?

Re: Who pays for bent Armco?

Bent Armco? There ought to be a tire wall in front of any steel barrier IMO...Armco can be deadly....Cevert and Koenig at the Glen come to mind....wouldn't want to hit an Armco with an X1/9 or Z-car head on and slip under it...

Tell that to the designers of Autobahn.  There is plenty of metal railing without tire barriers around that track.  I have a picture of an example, but I can't figure out how to post it here.

i didn't think i was going to hit that.  i was more worried about the concrete wall as i drifted up coming out of the final turn.  i wasn't gonna let off, but 'that's gonna really hurt if it all goes wrong' went through my head a few times

Here's an example of Autobahn armco found via the intarwebs:

and another:

And here's a video where, if you can make it past the vaguely douche-y introduction, gives plenty of views of armco around and about the track:

No one's ever been decapitated or sawn in half by a concrete wall...I'll bet you could squeeze a full size car through that...
