Re: Fluids and maintenance - adds value?

It depends on a number of factors. I saw a cheaty Civic (I would have paid $1000 for it just for the drivetrain) get 0 laps because the suspension and brakes were crap. The judges basically said that it didn't have a chance of winning so they swallowed the "I got a smokin deal on the engine/trans" argument. They did put that one up on jackstands and give it a good going over though, so if your car looks fast, then be prepared to get extra scrutiny.

I'm pretty sure that if we showed up with a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere, then we probably wouldn't get looked at too hard, but we show up with a cheaty-looking Civic, so we keep our documentation in order.

Everybody grab your brooms, it's shenanigans!

What if your parts are in Japan?  That's how we got our used LSD.  Should we not have to count the $80 shipping?

I would say if you're buying parts in Japan like a cheaty LSD, then you should definitely have to count the shipping on it. If you go to the pull a part and pull it out yourself from some JDM tyte whip, then no, gas to get to the pull a part shouldn't count.

Re: Fluids and maintenance - adds value?

But I could fly to Japan and pull it out myself?  There's lots of potential for abuse either way.

In the end Johnny and Phil have got the brains to figure out whether someone else could have gotten the same thing for a similar price.

Call it cheaty if you'd like, but even with the LSD+shipping we were under budget.  Jay tends to be a tad more generous with the residual values of teams that bolt 70lb counterweights 2 feet above their roof.

Re: Fluids and maintenance - adds value?

Oh, anything that makes your car faster without making ours any faster is definitely cheaty! We can always discuss the cheatyness of your parts of multiple cold beers though.

In my small world, yes, flying to japan and pulling the LSD would be fine. Just make sure to do the yen -> USD conversion before you get to BS inspection. smile

And I am your car's biggest fan BTW!!!

We're already trying to figure out how to get another engine for the May race.  We can drink some beers then!
