Or perhaps the inverse of the ex-"Z=zero" rule?

Then you wouldn't know where the dickheads (or potential dickheads) are.

On a similar note, there's a 2002 that's been sitting in the woods for at least 5 years.  If I could somehow pry it loose from the owner for a few quid, would I be looked at as a potential dickhead?  Even w/ a 5.0 or SBC in it????

A 2002? You would be looked at as a God amongst men.

Seriously, that's a fantastic IOE car.

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

I've seen 3 2002s around here.  None of them were running and the lowest price was $2000.

We won the IOE at Southern Discomfort.
We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Believe it or not, we have many E30- and Miata-based teams that totally get it, so there will be no blanket outlawing of those cars. Our current system of sweating the hell out of E30/E36 and Miata teams during the BS Inspection does a good job of motivating newcomers to seek out other cars.

A few. We've had SBC cars in the top 5 before. However, the majority have engine failures.

A rebuild kit costs under 150 buck WITH new pistons... no reason for this... non at all.

...and?

SBC have cooling and oil problems inherent to the engine design.  A rebuild will do nothing to change the design.

Small tweeks can be garage engineered during the rebuild. I am sure that a majority of failures are junkyard picked long blocks that never got cracked open.

A decent rebuild could easily last the duration of a 24 hour endurance. Proper radiator sizing and air flow permitting.

seems hardly fair to the Z-car or Volvo teams that finally manage to finish first overall don't you think?  the prize money precedent has been set, $10 more per driver in entry fees ought to cover your plan bro.

seems to me, in my uneducated non researched opinion, that most of the dumb shit rollover stuff has been perpetrated by domestic iron.

other than CMP of course where there was a Toyota (shocker) and a Mazda RX7 that went teeter-toter and all.

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

Here's the thing about E30s and Miatas... they're too easy! How can you truly experience the pains of Lemons with a car that is rather reliable at the track even in beater form and that takes little to prepare for track duty?

Of course... right now I'm swapping a third V12 into my god forsaken Jaguar and I want to cry... but in the end I'll be a less sane and poorer man for it and that's what this is all about, right?

Here are the Lemons rollovers I can recall, off the top of my head and (roughly) in the order in which they occured:

Datsun B210
Toyota MR2
Yugo GV
Plymouth Belvedere
BMW E30
Toyota Corolla
Mazda RX-7
Chevrolet Cavalier
Volvo 240
MGB
Ford Escort
BMW E30
Renault Le Car
Ford Mustang

So that's 4 domestic, 10 import.

Thunderhill is still King Of Rollovers, with 8 of the flips listed above.

I like your thinking....its just about as flawed as mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  BUT my engine replacement vs races record is WORSE than yours!!!  I have a perfect engine replacement ratio of 1 per race!!!

I REALLY hope this engine can survive the race and maybe 1 more....
