Here are the Lemons rollovers I can recall, off the top of my head and (roughly) in the order in which they occured:

Datsun B210
Toyota MR2
Yugo GV
Plymouth Belvedere
BMW E30
Toyota Corolla
Mazda RX-7
Chevrolet Cavalier
Volvo 240
MGB
Ford Escort
BMW E30
Renault Le Car
Ford Mustang

So that's 4 domestic, 10 import.

Thunderhill is still King Of Rollovers, with 8 of the flips listed above.

At this rate, half the teams wil be banned for the season, and half of the rest doing motor swaps(my team included).

Team monstaRX-7: #91 1991 Mazda RX-7 convertible with a 5.0, WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
Races: 2010 Gator-O-Rama(DNF, blown motor, "Trailer on Saturday"), Oct 2011 Yee-Haw Its Lemons(actually finished the race! Judge's Choice)

Naw, some of those rollovers are going back three years

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

Yup.  I believe that's a record.  Texas always wants to do things bigger and badder.

Judges Johnny and Phil - am I right about the rollover record?

That the number I got from multiple sources just after the mustang incident. And the Pepe La Puu guys said they were three... the night before.

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

4 in one weekend??

And it was determined that Nelson Ledges was too 'dangerous'???

Heck the Lamest Day ran for a full 24 hours in the DARK and damp and managed to only put one car up on it's side in the nice soft grass exiting the carousel.

Who is up for a 'Bring back the Lamest Day' movement???

Would begging Jay & the Judges to go back to a fully subscribed race at Nelsons' be considered whining?

I think We will have to wait until the track people at NL try ( and fail ) at their own half ass attempt to do a Lemons style race before  beginning any serious discussion of the "real thing " returning there.

Im actually pretty curious to see how their event will turn out  considering its the weekend after American Irony           anyone planning on racing it ?  show of hands ??

I don't think it's the track that is dangerous ... we had more cars at the last race in October and didn't have any major accidents.

I think the 4 rollovers this past weekend were 3 driver errors and 1 stuck throttle ... the track had nothing to do with it

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

This was our fourth MSR race, and the first in which any cars flipped. I suspect the crazy weather should get more of the blame than the track. Thunderhill still flips more cars, mostly due to the gluey mud that forms when it rains (i.e. all winter long).

Nelson Ledges is just so damn fast. It scares the shit out of us when we see $500 cars getting up past 120 MPH.

Rodger that.  I had a blast, but the fact that my top speed was 111mph is completely scary.  I have no business going that fast.  Especially at 3am in the wet.

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

I will say that the first few laps driving through the kink at NL I was thinking, "If something goes wrong right..... here this is really gonna hurt."  I don't ever remember thinking that at any other Lemons race.  Then I got used to it and just had fun.

I just watched a video lap of Gingerman, and that track looks pretty fast too.

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

The best thing about NL is the lack of braking zones.  Speeds are indeed high, but unlike many tracks, crashes due to brake fade are rare.  Gingerman, which replaced NL, on the other hand, has two big brake zones and is very hard on brakes.  Additionally, outbraking becomes a popular passing method and we know how well that turns out.

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

Yes, MSR now owns the record for Most Lemons Rollovers In One Race. I believe Thunderhill averages about two per race. When the ground gets soft and you hit it sideways, the tires tend to dig in (also known as "The Thunderhill Effect").

All you dudes who complain about our "overkill" safety requirements are free to explain how you'd rather be thrown clear from the wreck. Also, comparing MSR to Nelson Ledges in terms of safety is like comparing a dachshund to a pack of starving, rabid Rottweilers; would you rather flip at 25 MPH or get T-boned at 115?

Re: Clarification on "Frowned Upon" cars

Dacshunds can be mean little bastards.  smile

As far as safety requirements, I don't recall ever hearing anybody ever complain about the requirements being too strict.  The only griping I've heard was about hybrid helmets and visors down during fuelling.  I'm sure the tech inspectors hear a lot of crap from teams that clearly can't grasp the cage rules and show up with unsafe cars, but I, for one, think the safety rules are great.  I even think that DOM tubing should be mandated on all new builds with a temporary grandfather rule for the current cars.
