OK, so it looks like the black Mustang lost control and hit the green Mustang before they both went off. So why is the whole left side of the green car wiped out before the incident? Did they play tag with somebody earlier in the race?
The Green Mustnag was tagged by the Thunderbird 5.0 on Saturday. They could not catch a break all weekend.
I saw the wreck and from what I remember seeing, they were about 4 wide into T17, black Mustang WAY inside, went off track and straight through the wet grass and cut the track and DRILLED the green mustang just minding its own business in the door. I heard the throttle stuck, but from what I saw it wouldn't have mattered...going in the grass was about the worst route possible.

Wouldn't clutch in, blow motor be a better option?
It seems the driver of the 108/801 car just happens to be our Mystery driver from Texas.
No, I'm not kidding.
Talk amongst yourselves. I need a @#$% drink.
wow what are the odds of the same car taking each other out during the race.....unless of course you drive a cheater miata or E30.....
I would LOVE to see another 928 out there.....shoot I'm happy just seeing another P-car

two Fox body Mustangs collide, roll and f**k shit up and still somehow you are able to reference a Porsche POS while trashing E30s and Miatas in general?

We were on pit lane waiting for a yellow to do a driver swap. The black car went off 50 yards or so before the turn. I'm thinking he got bumped to take him off and instead of stopping he kept going. I hit the wall in new Orleans in the Barbie miata last year and honestly can't say I ever hit the brake. In fact I'm almost certain I still had it floored when I hit the wall. the walk was 30 yards off track thru grass. Even the driver of the black stang may have a hard time recollecting what happened because it happens so fast. Think god they are both ok. I fell sorry for the punch carcause they caught he'll in tech Friday, got hit by a chick Saturday, and taken out Sunday. Better luck next time boys and once again glad your all safe!! See ya I'm Decatur in June!!! Go army miata!!!!!!!
I was coming down the pit straight as this occurred. About 20 yards from the corner I saw the black Mustang out of the corner of my eye. His front brakes were full lock, tires smoking. At that point he just started to enter the grass. I was following two or three other cars so I had ample time to slow down, but my view was obscured. All I saw was one Mustang go in and two Mustangs go out!
Either way, I can believe throttle stick. I have my doubts that car could have been going fast enough to lock brakes that early and not manage to slow down in time. I'd wager a bet that with the front tires locked, there was obviously no steering. It wouldn't surprise me if once he got out of the dry groove that the car pulled itself off into the grass. I nearly had the car pull into the pit wall while braking into that corner a little hot and late while the track was wet.
Now who's got shots of the Le Car rollover?
Pics are actually Kevin Paige's...www.kevinpaigeart.com
Not sure if anyone got a series of the Le Car...pretty far corner of the track. Maybe someone with a BIG lens or the trackside photographer.

Out of curiosity I investigated that same day. I happened to see the event and talked with both drivers. I also inspected the cars quickly to determine the driver of 108 wasn't just covering his ass. \
He stated the throttle stuck and he cut sharp to try and avoid the pack in front of him. When he hit the grass he lost brakes and steering (no shit) and could not avoid the Green stang. I asked him why he didn't just hit the kill switch... His response of shrugged shoulders showed that he paniced and didn't know how to respond.
After they dropped both stangs off in the lot the hood of the black stang was raised and after the air filter was removed it was clear to see the throttle was locked wide open. Only after a rather violent tug on the throttle cable did the carburator finally snap shut. He was telling the truth but was not prepared to handle the situation.
Both driver's were fine, even if a bit sore the next day. But all in all; it was better he hit the green mustang due to the fact that if he hadn't he would have gone full throttle into the tire wall and at that speed he may damn well have gone over.

I agree. That is NOT a safe vantage point. Especially the way the wall is slanted and all...it's setup for a car to go into the crowd.
MSR will hopefully take note.

What they really need to do is have some stand/access to the hill just west of the track. Its nice and elevated.
The gravel catches a lot of cars.
I have managed to clear it before but was slowed down considerably.
All that happened very quickly. I doubt the driver had the time to let og of the wheel and even hit the kill switch.
Assuming the car was a manual, clutching in would have been good.
I was on Pit Wall at the entrance to the Hot Pit and couldn't even interpret everything that happened. Good luck from the driver's seat.

YOu let a Lecar in?????????????? How does that pass tech? They have 3 lug nuts for God's sake. They do deserve an award though. That has to be the rarest car in the US. I think the last one I saw was when I sold mine in 1987. True confession time. Bought it brandspanking new and put 105k miles on it and sold for 25% of purchase price and probably made 20k in mileage money when I used it for work!

It was an awesome car with 20 HP... why wouldn't they? Besides a lug stud costs all of $1...

Well, I guess that shows my concern about lug studs is unfounded!

Yup... that was a LOW lift... One particular driver got it high enough that I am pretty sure he could have balanced it there... then came the epic barrel roll caused by a slight bump.
HULK SMASH!!
HULK SMASH!!
Hulk got smashed...

Wow! I am so happy we went with Peugeot rather than Renault when we decided to do something French. Though for what it's worth the only R-5 I've driven (a 1989 second-gen 4-door) didn't seem nearly that tippy. Glad to see that no one was hurt!
