Topic: Renault 4CV build page

We finally put together a little something for the 4CV. http://www.von-sneidern.com/rocketsurge … /home.html

I'm not really sure what year it is, if there are any Renault nuts out there that can help me decode the VIN (or need parts)  that would be appreciated.  I'm pretty sure it's 56-7, so Evil Genius has me beat for oldest car with the '53 Metropolitan.

The patina stays, but we haven't really settled on a theme.  "Clown Car" is absolutely not an option.

I don't think there has been a team named "rocketsurgery", so I'm staking my claim.  If I've intruded, let me know.

Cheers!

Re: Renault 4CV build page

It's flamed, French, and friggin' slow(maybe).  How about doing it up like a demonic snail and calling it Escargot To Hell?  For reference, here's a K-car wagon drawing I was playing around with.

Nice website, smarty-pants.  Fine, go ahead and make me look bad.

If it ain't broken, fix it 'til it is.

Re: Renault 4CV build page

Hell no! Keep it as stock as hell and go with a Rallye Monte Carlo theme, circa 1955....this car needs no weird theme

That ship has sailed.  Exactly what engine goes in the back seat is still up for negotiation.  Anyone have a V8-60 and a type 1 transmission adapter?

I love the patina too much to change it right off the bat, but a future iteration will probably get a period correct racing paintjob.

Nope but I've got a toyota 3TC to Type 1 adapter we may not be using now.

Not quite as exotic but I hear the 3TC is the slant 6 of the toyota world so it should be reliable.

13B rotary to VW is easy to find.

If it ain't broken, fix it 'til it is.

You'd think but not really.  We've been looking for one to add to our collection.  Our thinking is if we had a few different adapters then when we blew our motor we'd have options wink

We also thought about arriving without an engine and letting the judges spin our "wheel of engine" to decide what we throw in it and run.  Fun idea but right now I'll just be happy to get the dang thing finished.

I do love the look of the 4CV better than the Dauphine but then the Dauphine was such a crappier car...

The most ineffective bit of French engineering since the Maginot Line, the Renault Dauphine was originally to be named the Corvette, tres ironie. It was, in fact, a rickety, paper-thin scandal of a car that, if you stood beside it, you could actually hear rusting. Its most salient feature was its slowness, a rate of acceleration you could measure with a calendar. It took the drivers at Road and Track 32 seconds to reach 60 mph, which would put the Dauphine at a severe disadvantage in any drag race involving farm equipment. The fact that the ultra-cheap, super-sketchy Dauphine sold over 2 million copies around the world is an index of how desperately people wanted cars. Any cars.

Probably the last update before BFE.  I don't think I'm sleeping much over the next 3 weeks.

Re: Renault 4CV build page

Your team name is "rocketsurgery" and you have a 1950s car. Why not a M*A*S*H theme? It's the one time you can have a man dress in drag and it would actually be funny.

The theme is still mostly under wraps, but don't worry, our team has someone well characterized as  Klinger.  "Rocketsurgery" is an in-joke for a couple reasons (one is that I work in aerospace with some real rocket surgeons, well, at least through the next pay period anyway)  and it's a name that'll get applied no matter what creation or theme we use in the future.

Sorry Mack, no sisters. Try match.com?  I've heard nothing but good things about internet dating.

Re: Renault 4CV build page

Rich, was looking at the pics on your latest blog post. Good stuff. Very Lemon-y. One question though ... now it might be an optical illusion (I can't seem to find a good shot of 'em) but do the rear stays have bends in them at the top,a little ways back from the main hoop?
