Topic: Dream Lemons car for me.......

I would love to take a 240 or 260Z chassis and drop a 325i engine in it.  Whoah Nelly!!!  Getting the handling of a legendary Z chassis and the great German 2.5 litre i engine would be lethal. cool

What's your ideas?

Re: Dream Lemons car for me.......

Gonna have to get an American/British/Russian mash to equal it.  Call it WW2, take 2.

American body, British electrical system, and Russian engine!  There's a win-nah!!

Re: Dream Lemons car for me.......

Sounds good to me, although I'd prefer a Datsun 810 (same suspension as the 280Z, but much cooler-looking) and maybe a Big Six out of a 5 series.

But why not go all-out and drop a BMW six into an Alfa Spider? Beat-to-hell Graduates are cheap, and members of two different sects of purists will keel over dead in horror.

This is such a good idea it's not even funny. I wonder if it would fit...

It would fit, if you don't mind having a couple of cylinders in the passenger compartment with ya. The Alfa 4 cylinder barely fits in that engine bay. A straight six? Sounds like a Lemons challenge to me. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm sure the judges will make a front end exoskeleton exception for such an application?

Re: Dream Lemons car for me.......

Hell, if you're doing an engine swap, why go small?  Take that Alfa and put a Ford modular motor in it.  As long as you're killing the weight distribution, make it the V10.  Northstars are cheap too.  I can't wait until the LS series motors drop enough in price to start becoming Lemons fodder.

OOOH!  Would a rear-engined, Northstar-powered LeCar be considered an IOE contender?

There have been a few  Mustang 5.0 engine swaps in a E30.. that would also been a fun one.
I still really like the Chevy powered Jags. The Big cat at  MSR was a fast car.  And it really handled well.

Triumph Spitfire with a 4.3L V6 and a cut down truck rear end.

Re: Dream Lemons car for me.......

Well HELL, Why not a 283 or 327 in a BMW 2002 if ya'll want to get big in small.  But that might just work.

the Buick big litre V6 in the Alfa GTV would be sick.

Too bad some one couldn't find a Typhoon or Cyclone engine to play with.

Our first car was very close to a TR7 with a small block Chevy already swapped in.
Wonder what happened to that car.

Re: Dream Lemons car for me.......

If you are going to cheat, stick a V-8 in a 914 with a gigantic front sway bar and stiff rear springs.

Unbeatable.

It's just a matter of time...

We would give such a car every trophy we have.

It could be done without cheating. And it would be very, very beatable in the real world (though still awesome).

had said car it sucked it was fast once it was moving but unless you put a widebody kit on for some wider tires you are limited to a tiny tire. Though perhaps with a mild small block but of course I couldn't have that in my personal car smile

We're still waiting for someone to put an Alfa Twin Cam in an MGB. That would create a neutron star of LeMons-ness that would absorb the entire planet in a matter of minutes.

This is Lemons. A "widebody kit" consists of a sawzall, some sheet metal, and a welder. Big deal.

I'm dreaming of that 2002 w/ some sort of v8.  Since we have 3 5.0/ 302 to choose from, it would most likely end up w/ a ford powertrain.

We already get around the BMWs with our hybrid Z motor.  Most Mustangs too.

The 3-Series is fairly similar to the Z.

- 2.5ish Liter straight 6
- 4 wheel independent suspension
- The Z is probably lighter
- An E30 probably has better brakes.

A 3.5+ Liter BMW motor might offer a decent power improvement but I doubt it's worth the effort.

I am considering/conspiring on an 810 as well as a 5.0 240Z.

Any of these options still put you in the limited traction situation mentioned with the 914.  There just aren't many interesting 14" or 15" tires.

I am already working on improving traction with our 2.8 liter.  More power would only help in the straights if traffic allows.  Speed in the turns is very convenient.

This might happen - not my team, but rumors say a car like this might show up at MSRH in September.
