Topic: do I need a fuel cell in our Fiat x19?

Hi... quick question for the tech "powers that be"

We are planning to use our stock fuel tank in our Fiat X19 (should we get accepted).  Is that acceptable or should we start looking for a cell?

The tank sits behind the driver, between the driver and the engine compartment (it is protected well). 

I realize its much better to have a fuel cell, but the economics are tough....

Please, no "what's your life worth" comments, that's been forumed to death and If we can get the money together we will probably do a cell anyway, we would just like to know the stance on our car.

don't underestimate yourself.  according to cadaverforsale.com i'm worth $3,955.  now i just have to figure out how to cash some of that value out while i can still use it.  i wonder if they do reverse mortgages on people...

I hope this race is as fun as this forum!!!!! Who would have thought a fiat fuel tank qestion would lead to cadaver values....er...actually they seem to match quite well

I didn't see "Do you race the 24 hours of Lemons" as a check-box, but maybe it should be. 

They don't  say, but I'm guessing that getting extracted from a pile of twisted wreckage reduces your value somewhat.

Summit's got fuel cells for < $500.  Stick it in the front trunk like we do.

Stock tanks are preferred by the organizers I believe.  They tend to be better than the hokey junk us racers come up with.  That said I have a steel can circle track tank (notice that I did not say "cell") in the front of the Gnome and it's legal for Lemons.

Unless you know what you're doing, stick with the stock tank.  A fuel cell requires a lot of fab work, and quite a few extra parts.  We yanked the stock tank in the Craptation because it was leaking fuel through the rust holes - our $250 fuel cell ended up being around $800 when all was said and done.

And apparently, I'm only worth $3665.  Maybe they're paying by the pound?  *ducks and runs*

BTW, I answered that survey assuming the worst (drinking like a fish, fat, short, etc) and it came up with $5375.  WTF?

They will have interesting things to show the pre-meds in terms of liver, skin, knee problems, black lungs, ulcers, etc.
