Topic: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Does anybody want to save me some time and effor by forwarding me their trailer packing list so I don't overlook something possibly important for our first race?

If you don't have a list, maybe just post a reply about things you have/have almost forgotten, so that perhaps I will be less likely to repeat your mistakes.

So far my list is:

Beer
Car
Teammates (optional)

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Car
Wallet
Welder
Driver's License (important, isn't it LANE!)

You can get beer and teammates along the way.

I recommend packing tools (other than yourself and other drivers.)

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Every single tool you have in the shop that has ever been used to work on a car, including wood blocks, sledgehammers, and lengths of iron pipe.

Then bring spares.......

You still will not have what you need!

General categories:
Tools to assemble the car
Tools to disassemble the car
Tools to repair severe damage to the car (welder, grinder, torch)
Tools to force steel back into its semi-general original shape (portapower, jaws of life)
Every fluid the car uses, at least 2x the recommended amount
If it rotates, bring a spare.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Duct tape
Zip ties
Self tapping screws
10mm socket
Torque wrench
Air compressor
Extra nuts/bolts- preferably a huge can of both
Extra head gasket with all of the fixings
At LEAST two extra sets of brake pads
a Big F*cking Hammer
Jack stands
low-profile pneumatic jack
Gas cans
Synthetic oil, oil filter and an oil pan
Wet wipes
BEER!

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Zip ties.

Every radiator you own (like cigarettes among convicts, radiators serve as currency among Lemons racers once the racing starts; even if you don't need it for your own car, you'll be able to trade it for stuff at the track). Doesn't matter what size/shape, because a desperate Lemons team can make any radiator fit any vehicle.

Nuts, bolts, and fender washers (for bolting tires and/or Cones Of Shame to your car's roof- hey, you think we provide the hardware for those penalties?)

And protection...

Like helmet, SFI suit, shoes, neck brace.

And extra rubbers.
You might flat-spot some tires.

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Are you driving an MR2? If so, bring a spare 4AGE. Preferably one that you've already tested out and have in working shape.

Along those lines, cherry picker. Don't think that was listed already.

Coffee, good coffee. Nothing sucks like not being able to find a good cup of coffee in the morning. Especially if you've been up all night swapping engines.

i don't think Lemons is that big that we have to worry about signing autographs at the track

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

A spare head gasket is always a good idea.

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Impact wrench, air ratchet, air compressor and generator makes frantic disassembly faster.  For assembly, not so much, since it generally results in broken/stripped bolts if you're in a hurry.

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Just park next to the EGR trailer. wink

They are gold when you need them to write "I will never go four wheels off again" a hundred times  and your sharpie runs out of juice.:D

Money and beer and lots of it, both work well as bartering tools when you need a part that another team has it.

Or when you need to apologize...

(top tip - make your car really obstructive, but yet endearing to the other racers.  They'll hit you all the time, and then give you beer to apologize.  Totally works!)

oh, believe me, i know.  i was given the challenge of running around the pits at nelson looking for sharpies when our team got hit with that penalty

Re: Packing the trailer for race weekend...

Car running - keep racing
Car broken - grill, steaks, brisket, ribs & rubens.  Help other teams still in the game.
