Topic: Well.... Im going to do it Chicago 10/23

After being introduced to Lemons from Jalopnik I have gotten hooked! I just purchased a $100 82 Ford Fairmont (Boxtop) from my Uncle and am ready to rock.

Although Im new to Lemons I hope reading this forum will point me in the right direction in what I should prepare for. I only have 1 other person besides me involved but he will only be able to drive (Hes from Arizona and is a Acura mechanic and amateur circuit driver so I thought he could be helpful)

Any tips, tricks, hints or other things to prepare for? I live in Chicago and would love to meet other people in the area who are going to be there on 10/23...

I'm in Elgin, IL and will be there to at least watch.  I'd love to join a team, but money is tighter than I'd like as of late.  I had a 1980 Fairmont in back in high school and would be glad to help wrench.

It would be nice to have a meet sometime before the race.  I'm out of elmhurst and the other 2 members I have so far are spread out around the area.

As for tips not sure we could help since we are making it up as we go along ourselves.

A friend and I are also going to be racing at Autobahn in October. We spectated the race at Gingerman yesterday and Saturday and are uber-excited for our car, which is a '91 Escort. We'll be autocrossing our rolling wreck a bit this summer; my teammate has done some autocrossing in the past, but I'm a complete n00b to racing (and wrenching).

We're based out of Woodstock, IL, but I live in the Wheaton/Carol Stream area.

I'm very excited to participate after watching the Gingerman race. Mad props to those Fiero guys and their continued piston removal. Perseverance!

Final Gear is looking to hit Chicago as our final race of the year and have it be a full on FG meet as well. We've already got about a dozen people planning to come and cheer us on, and hopefully all the bugs will be worked out of our GTP so we can give them an impressive showing.
