Topic: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

OK, to the best of my knowledge, here's what's happening:

All the tech will be completed at the track ... probably by 4:30ish. We would prefer it if you were done WAY before 4:30 pm. If you're late, you won't get teched until Saturday and you will most likely start the race late. So, be on time.

All the cars will have to be taken (this means you will put them on a trailer and haul them) to a parking area (Historic Camden) in Camden for assembly by 5:30 pm.  At 6:00 all the cars will be led parade style with a Police escort into downtown Camden.  The main street in Camden (in front of Sam Kendall's) will be closed.  All the cars will be parked there for BS Judging.

There will also be a band, beer, food, etc.  The festival is scheduled from 6 to 9:30.  We will keep the cars there until 9:00 pm-ish.  You will be judged from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Us Judgely types will be mic'd up and competing with some band to insult, er, fairly JUDGE your cars in front of the crowd.

After BS Judging, you all get to trailer your cars back to CMP while we dine on bacon-wrapped shrimp and good bourbon at Sam Kendall's.

Questions?

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

It sure would be nice (like it would ever happen) if we could get teched on the trailer and not have to load, unload, load, unload, load, unload, load, unload, load, unload, load, unload, load, unload...you get the idea.

Yeah, yeah, I know...no whining.  We don't want to miss the festivities in Camden, so I guess we will jump though all the hoops to get there.

Too bad it's NOT going to be nice!

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

They are still doing the testing session at CMP on Friday also, it will be over by 4:30 though I beleive

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

sweet!  I was hoping this would happen.  I'm guessing the street legal cars can just drive there....

I was at the Mitty this weekend and saw a few Lemons cars roaming around.

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

Does this sound like one of those things you see on the news when they send invitations to a SuperBowl party to a bunch of crooks with outstanding warrants.  Then when the dumb asses show up they get arrested???

I want to live or die trying.

Okay...I'm going to don my whiney bitch hat and prepare for the slings and arrows - but:

My rig is pretty big.  I get to the track early so I don't have to maneuver it around others and I leave late for the same reason.   By 4pm Friday, I generally have a fairly well established tent city built right up to the trailer.

While I'd love to have the locals cheer as cheap beer is poured on my car, what are the BS options if the car doesn't make it into Camden?  What are the chances we could get a police escort from the track so whiney bitches like me can just drive there?  What's the chance I'd get away with it if I just threw a dealer tag on the car?  smile

how loud is it?  i'd say slap a dealer tag on it, follow with a support vehicle and go from there.  over the last four or so years i can't say as i have actually seen more than one County Mountie on the road from Camden to the track.  but you know Murphy.

Not loud at all.  Murphy's all I'm worried about since I'd be driving like the proverbial little old lady when it's on public roads.  It's got no turn signals, but the only turns are into and out of the track...

Hand signals.  They're still legal.

Now I'm glad we kept Our Lady roadworthy.  She even still has her cat.

I've only been pulled over once so far.  The cop shook my hand after he verified my tag and insurance (I had left the year sticker off my tag).

Ok, fellows we are going to be in SOUTH CAROLINA, the local police know we are there with non-street legal cars.   You don't think some Red Neck county sheriff is going to be waiting in the weeds trying to make his quota.  I'm just sayin'

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

The BSing is over at 9"00 pm.

Headlights will be needed.

In other words, YOU HAVE TO TRAILER YOUR CAR.

These guys can't really be Lemons racers, because nobody has asked any questions about fueling on Main Street yet.

Hey Judge Phil, when did you change your screen name from Murilee Martin?  Did this just happen, or have I been sleeping?  It's likely the latter, but I just wondered.

I changed it last night. People at races keep yelling "Murilee! Hey, Murilee!" and I don't respond because I forget that's my porn name. That's the danger of the porn name.

As my porn name is Mandy Slabbage, it's not really an issue.

Questions?

Judge Jonny:

I respectfully ask that the Lemons South organizers please remove this late-breaking mandatory Camden Parade requirement and give us a BS inspection opportunity on Friday at the track.   Make the parade optional or perhaps give those who participate some extra credit such as a few seconds lap time reduction bonus or a get out of jail free card.

This parade is a last minute addition to the CMP event and adds a lot of extra work and a significant time and $$ investment to the teams participating.

Considerations:

* With a 9:30 pm parade/party departure time most teams will be very lucky to get back to the track by 11 pm to re-unload their cars and re-establish camp and then trek back to their hotel (or in local cases like our team, drive the 1 1/2 hours back to Charlotte or pay for an unplanned extra night at a hotel away from our families).

*Once paddock camps have been set up it's a major PITA to re-connect trailers, move tents and tools, etc so all these teams can get out in a timely fashion for the 40 + minute (with heavy trailer traffic) drive down to Camden.

*A bunch of trailers loaded up with valuable tools in Camden is a nice target for some quick $$$.  CMP with controlled access has always been a pretty secure spot to leave your stuff, but we know nothing about where things will be left while the BS judging goes on or who will be watching them.  Unfortunately many of us know a crowbar or bolt cutters gets a thief into a car hauler pretty quickly.

I haven't seen anything that describes the reason for this change so perhaps there is some big benefit to Lemons or CMP or Camden's economy to do this that hasn't been spelled out.  Certainly it sounds like it might be a good time to hang out with friends and drink a bunch of beer before loading up trailers and driving them back to the track.  That's what is going to happen, right?

Judges, Lemons is supposed to be about fun and racing.  The biggest issue here really is the time commitment and what is sure to be a major traffic-congested goat rodeo for an entire evening.  IMO there is no way to make this either easy or fun for the participants as planned.  This added requirement on the teams to "force them to promote" the event is a last-minute hassle that should be reconsidered or made optional.

Thank you for your consideration.

I'm pretty sure it's not up to judge Johnny or Phil.   We aren't in love with the idea either, but as has been stated before, this is Jay's sandbox and if you don't like it...well, you get the idea.
