Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

I think this sounds awesome.   If you are worried about the big trailer rent one of those uhaul drag rigs to make the run to the city and back.  Yeah it's an extra 39 bux or something close to it but it saves the hassle of bringing the whole rig.

Wish I could be there

Nice idea but for folks who carry all their tools, spares, etc in their trailer like us that idea is a non-starter unless now we're bringing two trucks and two trailers down just so we can do a parade we aren't interested in doing.    Edit - reading again I guess the 'drag rig' would be smaller (never seen one without a car on it, maybe it would fit inside trailer) but honestly not sure our car would survive being dragged, lol.

Good luck getting your car completed!

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

Yeah I'm not real keen on the whole thing and think it could turn into a fiasco but we'll do whatever is asked obviously.  Not complaining wink

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

I'm sure they could arrange a police escort to get the cars too and from the track without having to hitch the wagons. Maybe a tow truck from the track should accompany the cars since one or tow will probably break down. After all, it is not uncommon to a number of cars back in the paddock for repairs only a few laps after the green flag drops.

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

I was suggesting renting from a local uhaul but I guess you could put it in/on  your normal trailer for the drive down.

Maybe someone local with one of those 10 car haulers could offer a shuttle service...

Or as someone suggested, get a police escort and consider the trip from track to main part of the parade

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

you whiny bastages.  CMP is a track located in BF South Carolina where no one locally, and i mean no one, has ever really given a shit what goes on there.  this is steeplechase horse country.  racecars are an annoyance.

Kershaw still doesn't care what goes on at CMP.  Camden is at least is making an effort.  i'm sure many of the residents of Camden would rather the Lemons circus didn't pollute their fair streets either.

the management at CMP is trying very hard to build an environment where  people like us can play for a long, long time.  but they need the locals to buy into the idea first.

quit your bitching you impoverished poor mouthing muttha-F****a's and load your POS car on the damn trailer and follow the rules.  while you're at it, stay in Camden that night.  throw a little change to the town.  my god, ya'll commute to Charlotte.  you cheap ass bastages.

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

Oh all the tracks I've been to, CMP seems like it has the MOST local patronage from spectators. My dad's been approached by little kids of Families surfing the paddock and was actually asked for his autograph! Local businesses actually sponsor a car or two (See Racing Nemo pics hanging up in the local pizza parlor on main street) and of all the places, I think a parade for Lemons there would be a fantastic venture. I actually wish I was going down there for the event however I've been going to the Indy500 with my dad for 17years and last time we broke tradition we -almost- missed what could have been the most historical finish at the track since the 1970s. (well, that and we ran gingerman last month and will be running summit next, so had to choose our battles)

I'd say suck it up, but then again we're not running a 30' gooseneck so really the only comment with merit would be asking about setting up a police escort from the track, which i don't think would be difficult.

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

I got to agree with the whiny comment.  With all the work to get a Lemons car together this is minuscule.   Lemons is true grass roots racing like back in the 50's and 50's. While I am not as old as soldmystange, I have read history books.  This gets the community involved and interested, gets young kids interested in cars, just a great opportunity to build relationships the will help the sport and future events.  It reminds me of old video clips of Watkins Glen and Sebring events.

You sound like some professional golfers I have had the "pleasure" of playing with that think they are too good to play with the amateurs (that are responsible for bring the the event to town so they can make a pay check for playing a game) on the Wednesday pro-am.

In the UK they would call you guys a bunch of Whingers.  Quite Whinging.

I want to live or die trying.

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

i've been around a day or two. been around racing most of my life. and never had the opportuty to take a ride downtown for a happening like this. i think it would be a bunch of fun. and yes, the crew we have numbers somwher between 13 and 20, depending on what day it is, with 3 cars entered in the hooptie. would we go?

WHY HELL YES WE WOULD!!!

we're proud of our junk, and would be honored to show them off. that is, until we blow then up

Have you ever been to CMP and/or Camden?  That would be 20+ mile journey from the track to Camden.  Imagine a few cars "laying back" to get some space so they can let 'er rip on a public road.  Yes, you can bet your ass that would happen, then someone would slam on brakes, chain reaction, etc....you get the idea.  If it were 5 miles I'd agree we could do it, but not for that distance.

Loading, unloading, loading, unloading will be a PITA, but there is no other choice so we'll grin and bear it.

I agree completely with RainOnParade. This whole thing sounds like a huge PITA--loading the car back up on the trailer, hooking up the truck, then the hundred or so of us all driving down to Camden at the same time, then unloading, then loading back up AGAIN for the trip back, and then unloading AGAIN.

It's one thing to make it an option, I'm sure some people want to do it, but to make it mandatory is abusive. I'm guessing this helps them sell a few extra spectator tickets, not that I begrudge them making money on the event, far from it. But I am feeling used.

This is my second Lemons race, I had a great time at the first one and I think it's a fantastic event, but this is bad enough that if they do it again in the fall, I will probably vote with my feet.

No one is forcing you to take your car downtown.

If you would rather Judge Phil and I BS your car at CMP, no problem.

This is the kinda thing that you kinda dread before hand but once you get there you realize it's pretty damn fun.

Its kinda rough for the "arrive and build" crowd but I'm sure something will be worked out for those folks.

And another thing, with recent happenings at CMP it is probably a very good thing to help build goodwill with the community.

I'm just glad they are LETTING us trailer the car to Camden and back.  If we were forced to drive the Craptation there and back, we would probably use up most of its remaining useful life NOT on the track.  yikes
