Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

We don't have a trailer. Can we just put the lights back in the thing and drive it into town? We can pop them out again for the BS inspection; it just takes a few minutes.

Everybody grab your brooms, it's shenanigans!

Grassroots racing is about having Chinese fire drills centered around loading and unloading your trailer?  I thought it was about, well, racing...without all the dog and pony stuff.

I'm sure the Camden block party is going to be a blast.  We're driving the car there and using our Nelson Ledges lighting package to get it back at night (with an escort car in the lead to help out).  I spaced when I first read about this and thought it was happening in Kershaw (gee...it's only a couple of minutes north, no biggie!).  I really don't get what the benefit to CMP or Lemons is to have it in Camden...but I'm just a chump who likes to race on the cheap.

I'm sure Judge Phil and I can help you to see the point/light.

"This is the scene where I get shot," Bronson said. "I have these little squibs that explode to make it look like bullets are hitting." "Fascinating," said Bergman. "I never knew how they did that." "You mean," asked Bronson, "you don't use machine guns in your movies?"

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

Getting everything unloaded, going to tech, loading back up, parking the trailer, being asked by the Police to repark the trailer, lining up and cooking in the sun while we waiting to drive in, it was a huge PIA.

However, driving down mainstreet watching people stream out of business to see what was going on, one lady even coming out from the salon with curlers on, having people come and ask you about the car, kids getting their pictures taken with the car, giving out extra rubber ducks to kids, walking into a bar and having the bartender ask why the hell you have a duck on your head, having a local show you the proper use of a duck call, it was just epic.

Was it a PIA, yes. But I sure thought it was in the end a lot of fun and probably a great outreach to the locals. But what do I know...

We felt like rock stars in our scouting uniforms. Everywhere we went people wanted to get their photos taken with us.

I personally thought it was a BLAST!

I concur, what a killer event!

I only wish I hadn't passed out on the hood so early on.

Yeah, I thought it ended up being pretty awesome.

Our theme isn't that great so we didn't feel like rock stars, but it was still fun having locals come by asking about the cars.  I probably explained the concept of the race to people about 20 times.  It might have lasted a little longer than I would have liked, but I think that was mostly because we were a little worried about having to fix something for tech and didn't have time to get beer in the cooler before heading downtown.

We saw your epic C&B, and envied your ability to sleep/pass out in such a wonderful mayhem.

Yes it was different.  Yes, we would do it again.  We met a lot of the teams we normally would not get a chance to see, and I had a ball while the BS was going on.  Did it make for a late night?  No, not considering the hours most of us put into getting a $500 car race worthy.

Re: What's ACTUALLY happening in Downtown Camden/Kershaw

Agreed it was fun!

Bad part was having to return to the garage and fix the intake manifold leak on the Craptation (beginning at 11 PM) after driving though the previous night and working all day.  Several (yea, right!) beers without much food didn't help much.  I became absolutely non-functional about 1:30 AM and just stepped aside from the repairs.

I need someone to remind me to eat and sleep when I go lemon's races.  Where's Mom when you need her?  LOL
