THIS!

Get the ones with the horizontal creases and it'd be very sweet!

Re: New Norcal team

The mechanicals are nearly done and the car has survived it's first track day. It's heading up for another one this Friday.

We'll start painting the car soon. Corvette Racing yellow, or as close as Rustoleum can get us.  I'm rustling up free stickers now. Stickers are a very important part of the theme. What I can't get manufacturers to send me a friend in Florida will make for us. We couldn't get any contributions from the local Chevy dealer (Corvette badging, gas cap, shirts, and hats) so badging will be stickers, too.

Re: New Norcal team

You should call Pratt & Miller. They're the ones who run the Corvette Racing program and I know that some of their guys have done cars at the Toledo and NL races, maybe Gingerman too? But you might be able to get some love from them if you sell this as a "tribute" car. Hell, they have an entire busted up tail from the C6R that got effed by the Peugeot in the Porsche Curves.

I like the Jake way up on the C-pillar. smile

Re: New Norcal team

Good suggestion. I've been calling Mobil 1, Sunoco, and others. P&M might be able to help with the more difficult to find decals.

Are you suggesting I graft on the tail of that busted up car?

That's Brilliant!   Just think of the Pedigree you're car would have.

I am mentally divergent in that I am escaping certain unnamed realities that plague my life there. When I stop coming here, I will be well...

There WAS someone iirc, that had the Eddie Griffith Enzo's nose bolted to the roof of their lemon for a race, so this is not an impossibility.

Re: New Norcal team

Re: New Norcal team

Pratt&Miller won't give us any decals for the car. But they are helping with costume.

It's Monday. Only a few days left and it looks like we're going to make it!

The car has been at the track twice and has done well. By well, I mean nothing broke, 'though something did smoke, and it has been fixed.

The car is sanded but needs a little more prep today, mostly some bondo and sanding on the nose, plus sanding in the doors and other tight spaces. I wish we had more time for this part of the project.

The archeology of the sanding reveals - blue, a thin layer of brown bondo everywhere, some white bondo in patches all over, blue, cream, then metal.

Decals (barter in exchange for video editing) are being made now and we should have them tomorrow or Wednesday.

If I can get this thing registered in time, or get a trailer, and it survives this weekend, I'll try to get it to Concours d'Lemons, plus the Opel contigent at the Historics, and most of all, I'll want to see if I can get it into the Corvette club section.

Re: New Norcal team

Someone from the local paper will be dropping by soon. I'll try to get them to come to the race. How do I score press passes from Lemons?

Re: New Norcal team

Just tell them to call or email Jay and he'll get them hooked up.

Re: New Norcal team

Wow. Just read this entire thread. Looking good guys. Still waiting for my time to come, but can't seem to get a committed team going. That, and the '71 truck takes priority over any racing dreams/toys I may have/want. sad

Soon, though! Good luck with everything, guys. Also, love the car.

Re: New Norcal team

You guys are totally epic.  Makes our team's work on an E30 seem totally pathetic by comparison.  Good luck to you guys, we'll be rooting for your (awesome) crapcan.

Re: New Norcal team

Thanks guys.

We can barely believe we got this done in 9 weeks. It was a stinking mess when we got the car and now it is all snowy white under its first coat of primer, and it has been to Thunderhill twice, and nothing has broken or blown up. Granted, tracking it helped us find things that needed fixing, like oil leaking out of every seal of the transmission.

We'll be bringing a few cases of spare parts to the track with us. It seems very unlikely that we'd be able to find parts at and auto parts store or bone yard.

The car will be yellow this time tomorrow, and sporting decals on Wednesday.

Looks like our t-shirt plans are bust and I'm not doing well getting Pratt&Miller to sell us crew shirts. We might have to fall back on disco/porn king Corvette sleaze for costumes, which would work of a standard Corvette, though probably not for this car.

Make sure to drop by our trailer to say hi. Thanks again for the kudos.

Re: New Norcal team

Hey just noticed you guys are in Davis. Our Lemons car usually sits outside in front of my place on the equally shoddy looking trailer. I've gotten various interesting comments from South Davis residents, haha.

See you guys at Thunderhill; also you should look into bringing your car to the Sacramento SCCA auto-x events (assuming it's still functional after this coming weekend), there's a TON of corvettes there and I'm sure your Lemons car would cause a ruckus.

Re: New Norcal team

Are you with Fraidy Cat Racing? They are another Davis team running another Jaguar.

We do plan to autox it, for fun. Two of our team members already autox nearly every event in SFR and Sac.

Also, I registered the car today, so once it has lights again, maybe a horn, and turn signals, maybe a speedo I can drive it on the street, maybe even to the Concours d'Lemons and the Opel gathering at the Monterey Historics.

All this like you say, assuming it survives this weekend.

Re: New Norcal team

Hmm, there's more Lemons teams in Davis then I thought. I'm with Project-Fate, we run a circus tent/ rising sun pattern purple and yellow 300zx.

Did Fraidy Cat Racing run an RX-7 in past races? If not, there is yet another Lemons team in Davis.

Project-Fate Racing - '86 300ZX

Re: New Norcal team

The red RX/7 was a Davis car. It used to belong to the Davis Motorsports Club. The guys running it in Lemons were former UCD students, recent graduates, that bought it from the club.

I remember seeing your car at Thunderhill. I'll have to drive around S Davis to see if I can find it in a driveway.

Re: New Norcal team

So I guess that makes 4 teams in Davis? Not sure if the RX-7 team is still around. Anyways, that's pretty neat.

The 300zx is actually not in Davis right now, I've towed it to the bay area for the time being to do some roll cage upgrades.

Yeah about that uhh.... long story I guess.

I know the Junkyard Kats are somewhere in Sacramento and there's one team with a red miata... saw them both at one of the Sacramento SCCA auto-x events. Lol, what team is "My Idiot Son Hit a Tree"? Hilarious name.

My team, the 16v Volvo 740 wagon.  It got its name from being wrecked by my son and then getting turned into a Lemons car.

The Junkyard Kats went to the Denver race with the 280z powered trans am.. we built the cage in that car..  I don't know if its back from Denver.

Re: New Norcal team

Rollering a car just feels weird, but it is fun.

How little is this car? Less than one quart of paint covers it. That makes it smaller than a typical bedroom wall, surface area-wise.

Tip - don't paint under lights at night in the carport. Bugs love yellow.

Here she is:

One more coat tomorrow and painting is done.  All that is left after that is decals, minor electrical, and installing the lights and bumper.

Re: New Norcal team

Our team is outa Sac although the car is up in Placerville. We hope to debut it next season.
We'll be out to T-Hill on sunday, wanted to go all weekend but work got in the way.

Btw that Opal looks awesome.
