Topic: Rules Clarifications... i need your input!

Hi guys I need a couple of clarifications.

1. Roll bar padding. It specifies High density padding in the rules but doesn't say no foam type padding. Is the foam type acceptable?

2. Can cars run without doors? our car has no drivers door and provided we get our mirror situation sorted that's alright. right?

Thanks!

Yeah, you can use foam padding, but be aware all foam is not created equal. Foam stuff from a speed shop is probably OK, while softer stuff from Home Depot probably isn't.

Though we'd rather you not run sans driver's door, you can do it provided our tech inspectors find your door bar configuration to be a more-than-adequate substitute.

Trust me, you don't want this thing coming at you without a door in between.

Yeah We've got a full 3 bar "nascar bar" setup so we should pass. We'd still like to make an aluminum covering, but we probably wont have a real door.

As for the padding, we have purpose made padding but it is certainly foamier than it is rubbery.  It's good to hear that we can use either.

Thanks for your help!!!

Most racing sanctioning bodies specify high density foam around the drivers head area and the speed shop style where ever else you want it. Real high density foan has SFI # on it and Only cover half the tube area with a strip of adhesive on the inside.

I'd guess less than 10 cars had the proper padding in their cars at CMP.  SFI padding is actually feels kind of hard and is designed for helmet impact areas only.  The softer stuff is for protection of other parts like arms and legs.  Yes, the SFI stuff is stamped as such, but if you want to test if you have the proper padding in the areas when your helmet could impact a bar, hit the pad with your bare fist.  If it hurts your hand, you've probably got the right stuff.

Jegs had the cheapest price on SFI 45.1 padding when I looked around a few weeks ago, $18 per Kirkey branded 3' stick.

1-1/2 - 1-7/8 tube http://www.jegs.com/p/Kirkey/Kirkey-Hig … 2/10002/-1

EDIT: Pegasus has it for $17 per piece.
1-5/8 to 2" tube http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produc … oduct=2395
1-1/8 to 1-1/2" tube http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produc … oduct=2391

For $1 more, I would get the Kirkey because one part # will acommodate the two sizes of tubing used for Lemons cages, 1.5 and 1.75.
