The Mark VIII shall return.
Team Final Gear and our supercharged GTP will be there ready to defend the honor of the mighty 3800. But I do hope it's a fair bit cooler than Summit Point was.
Team Stupid but Tough will be there demonstrating various forms of spontaneous high-speed disassembly
But I do hope it's a fair bit cooler than Summit Point was.
Now that you've said that it's going to be 115 in the shade.

Well that shouldn't matter since our trailer will be insulated and we'll have more than a mouse blowing over a tray of ice cubes to cool it now won't we?
Team Magnum, PU will be there again with our '89 Prelude. Maybe our window weld repair to the rear motor mount will help keep it in 2nd gear when we'd like it to be. A 2.0L with no torque is a absolute dog out of the corner in 3rd gear.
If it's cooler than it was in May we wouldn't mind one bit either.
Entry list shows 130 teams... I remember the last one with that many cars and it was a traffic jam with lots of black flags and hopefully a minimal amount of "mettle to mettle" incidents.
we're out. emotionally exhausted and morally bankrupt.
POS racing will be back with our crappy UPS truck themed civic. 5 races and 3 engines....almost like an F1 car.
Our Lady of Perpetual Downforce will be there. Even if it's only two of us racing. We did so well last race (she didn't blow the head gasket until late on Sunday) that we've got to come back and see if we can break the top 20.
Eagle Racing will be there with the Talon again.
We are still debating on the webcast.
World Class Motorsports Livers will be there with the Geo.
Team Sgt Schultz will be there. Don't know which car at this point as we may save the Merc for the Dec race in Fl as we are on borrowed time at this point. Maybe the Uchill Audi 100 we ran in the spring will show up, especially if they are calling for rain.

Borrowed time? How can that be?
We will be there with the NASA Surplus Escort (AKA Turkey Fryer Endurance Racing, AKA Henry Ford's Revenge, AKA that nondescript Escort that you've seen at a few Lemons South races). We've just started calling ourselves GRR Sports.
Keystone Kops Volvo #240 will not be back. Used up all the Volvo brake pads in that part of the country the last race there are none left to buy. We will be racing at Nelsons Ledge 24 hour race Labor Day weekend with Used Cars. Then Chicago & Florida at the end of the year. With Summit Point will make 5 races for us this year That will fix our manly needs.

2 endurance races on the Automagic could be considered borrowed time I guess. Especially since I lost the ability to shift from 2nd to 3rd at CMP in the spring during it's first stint. The problem never showed up at Summit, though we were careful when we shifted. Maybe a fluid change is in order.
Cold Source Racing will be there with Herpes, the Bug of Love (73 super beetle). This will be our first Lemons. Still trying to wrap my brain around 130 cars on that track at the same time!

That number will probably drop to around 100 or so teams by they time the race starts. Some teams wind up not paying the entry fees, others don't pass tech, and others are just not able to get their car onto the track.

PunisherBass is dead on... figure 110 tops will start the race based on the last time a huge field was at cmp. So that gives each car 48 feet to the next car if everyone is evenly spaced, not a chance in hell.... The over/under is 3 cars die on the warmup laps while they make sure the transponders work. The hot weather will be an attrition factor.
By late afternoon on Saturday figure 60ish cars will be running with 10 more in and out of the pits.
the start will be like rush hour traffic and the key is to stay out of trouble. Easier said than done as we have run 5 races with 5 black flags (3 held for penalties) and one of our black flags came in the first ten minutes for hitting a car that got sideways in the corner. Secure the fire ext well as when they com loose and go off you tend to drive off track and get black flagged, Jay finds it slightly amusing.
The last large field, Saturday I could count the number of apexes I hit on one hand due to traffic. Run clean keep turning laps and get used to the chaos. Sunday usually opens up and the pace picks up!
Have fun!

This in a nutshell!! Lots of cars will also die thinking it is a good idea to run the Friday test. By hour 2 the traffic will be manageable but still heavy. I always tell my buddies that the start of a Lemons race is like sitting in rush hour traffic when a green flag drops.
Black flags will also thin the field. It's not uncommon to see multiple cars in the penalty box at the start.
If you've never been on a race track before hope you don't draw the short straw!!!! If you're a seasoned racer with other clubs but this is your first Lemons race expect an early black flag, because everything you know about position won't apply!! Just remember not to put yourself in a bad situation. If you start the race for your team all you need to worry about is giving the car to the next guy!!
BTW: team Bug Eyed Blowfish Boysenberry Pie Racing (BEBBP Racing)will be there!!!

I love the traffic jam analogy...
If you are running behind a group of cars duking it out and after a couple of corners you think, "Somebody is going to get hit" or you start screaming profanity at them for being idiots it is time to move inside or outside, lift on the throttle and let a couple of cars get ahead of you. That has saved me from a heavy accident twice!
The "Old Dudes" of R&R Racing will be there again with the Franken Honda. We froze our arses off at Southern Discomfort and can't wait to boil like a southern peanut in the heat. I'm hoping the weather gives us a break and cools off just a little.
Darwin Wrenching will be bringing tenacious #11, a 4 Lemons race veteran. I'm still slapping on some plastic around the radiator tho. We ran really hot at ChumpCar last weekend.
