Topic: Heat cycling tires

Hello everyone. Newbie team here getting a car ready for arse-freeze-apaloza in dec. Tire shopping for our 84 fireturd, found a set of sumitomo htz IIs in 255/40/17 with a wear rating of 360 at tirerack for $93 each, heat cycling would be another $15 a tire. Would there be any benifit to heat cycling this type of tire? Or would heat treating be more for softer compound competition tire.

Heat cycling is for pure-bred race tires - Hoosiers A6/R6 etc.

If you ever need to do it (and for the tires you are looking at - NO WAY!), mount the tires and take it to a parking lot for a few short bursts.

We used those tires straight off the shelf at Summit Point. They were fine as is. Save your pennies.

This is what they looked like on the front of our car at the end day 1 - they were prettymuch gone at the end of day 2 (200ish HP, FWD, MASSIVELY bad tie rods, 3100lbs, catastrophic understeer, and huge brakes)

Note that Summit Point actually had a few less hours in it than normal - only two sessions for 14 hours total, so on a similar course under similar circumstances, you might be needing a rotation or change.

A few corrections, the car has around 250hp and that picture is after the end of day 1, not the full race. That being said they did last the entire race but we found them to not have enough grip for our liking.
