Topic: Swing hinge

ok, I might be calling it the wrong part, but where our door is, if we made a part where the roll bar would swing out with the door and would latch with the cage when we closed is that against the rule book, I've seen it before on drag cars, and other cars just cant find any pictures of it....

Re: Swing hinge

I'd say it won't pass - and it's a bad idea.  If you are concerned about getting in and out, gut the door and bend the tubes NASCAR style.

Re: Swing hinge

Such a bar may not be illegal, but it is definitely not part of the cage.        It wouldn't count as one of your door bars as it isn't one piece and welded in.  And even if was an extra bar(beyond what is required by the rules) I'd probably fail it in case it broke and harmed the driver.

Re: Swing hinge

Yeah, just hollow out your door and bend the door bars into that space.  Bars gotta be properly welded to the cage front and back, no hinges or latches or anything.

Re: Swing hinge

You also don't need your door bars to be all that high up by the window sill. Put them as low as you can get them (without being stupid)

You can also angle them so they converge towards the front - they don't have to be perfectly parallel.

Re: Swing hinge

Option B above is not legal because the 2nd door bar does not span the full width from main hoop to A pillar bar.

I suggest you run door bars as high possible without making egress too difficult.  This will minimize chances of T bone intrusion by an errant Blazer, Bricklin, or Gaz.

I doubt a swing out door bar configuration will pass tech.  Bolt-in cages have to be bolted in and bolted together.  Imagine the tech inspector telling you to finish your cage installation before returning to the tech line.

Re: Swing hinge

An X bar is accepted.   The partial X, no way.

Tapering the bars toward the front for access is a great idea.  Make the front of the bars lower and closer together for better accessibility..

We've had a couple of teams weld one bar right on top of the first one so they have 'two door bars'   that won't fly...
