Re: Death of the Death Cab

On behalf of our newbie team Red Cross Relief in the medical 944 it's a real shame to hear that was the DeathCab's last race... Truly my favorite car in the pack, that v8olvo seemed to run as good as it looked-  At first it was VERY intimidating to see that flat black frontend with demon eyes in the rear view, but your constant well executed passes and enjoyable exit speeds quickly gave me confidence to hold my line and trust  your drivers.  Camping on turn one gave us a great experience hearing that  thing thunder over the hill towards 2.
I have to admit, driving home Sunday every dark car with xenons in my mirror startled me for a second thinking deathcab was coming for a pass.  Good car, good driving- shame none of the judges heard us yelling "no laps!"

Re: Death of the Death Cab

the V8olvo is a Lemons Legend....it appears its time has come to gracefully (for Lemons anyway) slide into retirement.....

I'm sure the team will be back with something even more interesting!!!

I recused myself from all BS inspection-related activities with the V8 Volvo.

We actually dynoed four cars, all of which proved to be non-cheaty.

I'm acutally insulted that the Opel didn't get a "BS" dyno test......since it clearly had brute POWER!!!!

It might be one of the LOWEST dyno's in the field....  I'd say only the mini's would dyno lower?

I think those moves from the F'ed Up car, if performed in the IRL, would earn you a DQ and a $60k fine... smile smile

Trek - GREAT video!  Thanks!

Re: Death of the Death Cab

As a first time driver in Lemons in the Magic Rabbit #83, I echo the comments of my teammate, and brother, that the Death Cab drivers were great.  I'd hold my line and you'd go by me, or after the turn I'd give you a point, and as you'd zoom past I'd get a casual courtesy wave.  If you were alone I'd try to pull in behind and get sucked along in your wake for a few seconds.  I also agree with the comments about the sweet sound of the Death Cab V8, and I heard it sounding a bit off Sunday afternoon but didn't realize you were out of the race that last hour.  I'm sure you'll have something else fast for the next race.

V8 volvo was a great car in my opinion.  fun to watch race.

Re: Death of the Death Cab

Ugh, that video was heartbreaking to watch. It just wants to keep going but just a little past tired.

Also n'thing the feel of intimidation seeing those little lights in the mirror.

torque make car go, Tonto - HP is simply braggin' rights for chowder-heads.
250ft-lb?
that's 4x what I've got on a good day, and that's with the extra bicycle pedals installed.
...and unless you weigh 4x 1500# that might tell ya why some of the crowd sentiment...
~if they know what torque is and were listening~

Try same car with the 156-170hp (no torque figures avail) the B28E/B280E V6 had and I bet everyone would give up some the penalty laps!

Isn't this the Dragnet cop car? Who would be Friday?

Damnit, Mike!  I had forgotten how plentiful cheap Darts and Valiants are on the left coast.  Seriously, how are there not any A-body based teams out there?

Re: Death of the Death Cab

I've raced several of these, including a Demon with "three on the tree" shift...(.not recommended) These are very underrated...they're light, can be lightened further and there are suspension tricks that make them handle....and since you're traction limited anyway, you can use a 727 or 904....plus they'll take a 360, although a 318 is plenty. I leaned to mount a spare ballast resistor on the firewall....

Seems like all the people we tried to bribe with free beer on Friday night either forgot by Saturday morning or didn't bother to attend the drivers meeting.  What sort of world do we live in when you can't successfully bribe people with free beer!!!

Oh, I remember the beer car.  The beer I chose was delicious - one I'd never had before...  Now new on my list of favorites.  I almost considered it as I was shouting "Burn them!" at the driver's meeting, but then I thought otherwise.  wink

It really is a shame we won't be seeing the Volvo anymore, but then again I imagine the next thing will be equally as interesting.  Looking forward to it!

So basically the Death Cab and Eyesores Prelude were DONE without Evil Clints trusty welder!!!  I personally like the idea of welding on a wood deck trailer....what could possibly go wrong!!

Nice work Clint!!!
